Better than average Chinese food place. Prices are a little high. But overall the quality of food was decent. I would rate the food 3.5

First experience ordering from Shanghai Gourmet and it will be my last. I'm so confused by the positive reviews. We ordered from DoorDash and they sent one of us the wrong item. When we called they told us to ask for a refund on DoorDash and that if we wanted them to give us the correct item we'd need to pick it up, pay again and bring them back the incorrect order. When my boyfriend forgot to bring the incorrect item back, she almost didn't give him our new order. Unfortunately, after all of the back and forth and 25 mins of driving, the food was our least favorite Chinese we've had in Norwalk in 6 years.

We love Shanghai Gourmet! Recently, we did two very large orders. One for a Christmas get-together and the following weekend for a New Year's Eve get-together. Both orders were ready for pickup on time and well packed with nothing missing. During the year, it is THE place for us when we want to order out and has been for many years. It’s all good, but they do an especially fantastic Singapore Mei Fun (my favorite).

It's very hard to find decent Chinese food in this area. Best so far was all the way in Bridgeport or Stamford. The food here is oily/greasy it lacks flavor and is heavy. It isn't satisfying and pretty pricey for what it is. Will not order here again.

Our family has ordered from here for years, and I love that they now offer online ordering (as it can be hard getting through on the phone during peak hours). There have been a few instances where the order isn't ready by the time given through online ordering, but it's never more than an additional 5 minutes. Our favorites: pad thai with chicken (which is indeed spicy, but what isn't advertised is carrots are part of the ingredients, which could be a bit too strong of a taste for some), General Tso's Chicken, fried wontons (crab meat cheese), and the fried dumplings. The packaging may seem small, especially with the noodle and chicken dishes, but they do pack plenty of food into the container which can be enough for a 2nd meal. Parking can be hit or miss, again at peak times, as the parking shares with other businesses in the area, so you may have to circle the lot or if you have a passenger have them pick up the order.

Best Chinese food in Norwalk. The Szechuan Chicken is my favorite, but we also love the Crispy Orange Beef. Highly recommend to anyone looking for great local Chinese food.

Had a bad meal from here a year or so ago. Decided to give it another try. Spent over $30. Spring rolls, pork fried rice, wonton soup, and sesame chicken. The soup was fine, ended up trashing the rest of it. I'm so disapointed. This used to be my go-to place. Now I know for sure it's not a fluke. So sad.
