This is just a great place to go for a special moment or anniversary. It is such a classic setting. The menu is superb. And the service makes the the evening feel very special.
Open Table reservation, seated immediately. Nice wine and cocktail list with imaginative creations. The food menu was not the menu reflected online. Smoked trout appetizer had a lot of nicely flavored trout. My Sweet Potato gnocchi had a great flavor and texture, with lot of flavorful mushrooms. Large portions. My wife's filet was perfectly cooked, but a little sparse with the root vegetables. The bread pudding was delicious and not too heavy. One downside was the delay it took for the desserts to come out. We had already finished our coffee and tea when they arrived.
A real pity, because the food is really good and it is a beautifully decorated place. That is the reason why we go there again and again, hoping to have a better experience than before, as this is not the first time the waitstaff has been less than friendly. It is sad if you are looking forward to a nice meal with friends and the waitress has such a bad attitude that it almost ruins the meal. Our waitress was rude to begin with when one of our party ordered a (pretty common) drink, instead of saying "I will check for you if it's available". We also were kind of forgotten in a corner of the restaurant and had to try hard to get someone's attention. She actually ended up bringing the drink as ordered, so why the attitude in the first place? She also noted down the wrong entree selection for one of our party, and when it arrived and we told her, she insisted he had ordered wrong (two people heard the person order correctly,,,). Instead of dealing with it appropriately she started arguing with us. Luckily we were all in a good mood and enjoyed the evening overall among friends.
I met my girlfriend for some Holiday Cheer & dinner in front of the fireplace in one of the front lounges. To our great surprise, there were upbeat live, local musicians ?on this Wednesday night in the other lounge. We had a wonderful time, and the food, drinks, service & atmosphere were terrific!
I read the reviews about this place and based on the reviews, I chose to book a reservation here. I wanted a very intimate dinner for my new husband and I on our wedding night. I called to make arrangements a few weeks in advance. I thought the person I spoke too understood what we were looking for. I was very disappointed to say the least, I didn’t get the quiet intimate seating nor any special acknowledgement to make this a special time for us. The place is very dated, chairs are worn and so is the paint and carpets, curtains need cleaning The food was average and service fair, she forgot our salad altogether! I wouldn’t recommend this place for any special occasion nor will we be back again.
The Chestnut Grille at the Bee & Thistle could have been great but . . .
We enjoyed the Thursday night fixed price dinner with two other couples last week and could not have asked for more. The three course dinner that includes a bottle of wine was $85 per couple, a true bargain for the quality of the meal. We were offered two choices per course, all of which were generous portions that were prepared perfectly and beautifully arranged. The service was somewhat slow, which we didn't mind, because we were enjoying relaxed time with our friends. The restaurant is divided into multiple small rooms, which helps to keep the noise level down so that conversation is pleasant. Since the meal included three bottles of wine for six people, and only four of us drank wine, our server wrapped the unopened bottle to take home. We look forward to enjoying the Chestnut Grille again soon.
Wonderful experience from the moment we arrived. Delicious meal, excellent wine list in a lovely atmosphere. Special experience. Worth a visit.
I booked dinner for our anniversary at Bee & Thistle. It is a lovely restaurant in a charming location. Unfortunately, it turned out the restaurant was hosting a wedding reception on the night we dined, and the space is not large enough to separate a private party from the other diners. We were seated in an enclosed porch separated from the wedding party only by a set of French doors. After the couple cut the cake, the sound system began blasting a Bollywood cover of "I Can't Help Falling in Love with You," at which point a server came in to apologize and promise it would only be for the first dance. However, the music and noise from the reception continued throughout the rest of our evening there. Many reviewers here have commented positively about the food, but in our view, it was only average. My wife enjoyed her jalapeno deviled eggs, but my wedge salad was unremarkable. We both ordered roasted cod for dinner, which was dusted in breadcrumbs and tasted something less than fresh. We had nice bottle of wine for $48 that Vivino lists as averaging $8. Service was somewhat slow. The room with the bar is the most romantic, so if you must visit this establishment, I recommend arriving early for a drink. Stay away from the fish on the menu, and by all means, confirm the place is not booked for a private party first.
My husband and I had dinner here and the food was sensational. 5 Star. I had salmon. He had pork. The wine was very nice also. Great ambiance. We recommend It highly.

My husband and I came here for dinner (note: did not stay at the inn). The ambiance was absolutely amazing....so cozy and beautifully decorated; good acoustics (not too loud); quick service. We both had the filet mignon and Brussel sprouts and the food was absolutely delicious. This restaurant was quintessentially "New England" and we would absolutely go again! It was just what we were looking for.
Romantic and fantastic food and ambiance! Had the butternut squash gnocchi... yummmm! The cocktails before hand at the bar were also amazing. Jackie was a fantastic bartender.
Come here every year for an anniversary dinner. Great food, staff, atmosphere and if you're lucky some good live music (only on some nights.).
We made an unscheduled dinner stop off I-95. Good selection of wines. Menu simple but tasty. Prices NYC comparable. Cozy atmosphere. Staff helpful and friendly. A nice place to make a relaxing dinner stop
