This is absolutely my favorite place to eat in old saybrook. Whether it be breakfast or lunch or dinner I have not been disappointed. I was especially impressed by breakfast here. My waitress Paige was so accommodating and kind. She made all the difference in the experience we had. I wish they had 10 of her. I would highly recommend for atmosphere hospitality and food. Above and beyond and excellent.
I have been back a dozen times since the review posted above. Valentine's Day brunch was nice. The dining enhanced by the pasta station which was fabulous. Chef Lam is simply amazing! He went out of his way to make the food and the Fresh Salt experience perfect. Staff like this will keep us coming back again and again. Thanks Fresh Salt and Thank you Lam.
Since my last review I have continued to visit Fresh Salt. It is hard to believe that my experience has been better and better.
Owner Viola so genuine and sincere. She is thoughtful and really cares about her customers experience in her hotel and restaurant. She also cares about people and that shows. I love the restaurant but will always choose this as a number one spot as an owner with so much integrity is too rare. Thank you Viola from Elena and family.

Fresh Salt has definitely improved recently. We had the cauliflower and parsnip soup which was so amazing, and a ricotta brûlée which was so unique and special. The cIoppinno for my main course was great (I asked them to make it spicy) and my wife loved her cold lobster role. The chef had really has done a great job keeping some solid classics and bringing in some new creativity.

If the chef removed half the ingredients from each dish and focused on preparing the food well, it would be worth the money. It seems the chef is overcompensating lack of cooking knowledge with a frenetic mishmash of competing flavors and ingredients. Adding more flavors does not make something sophisticated. And while the flavors of each dish I tried were underwhelming and strange, the real disappointment was how poorly cooked the dishes were. The johnny cakes were raw and the the monkfish was an overcooked piece of rubber. Unfortunately no amount of fussy ingredients thrown into a dish will make up for a lousy piece of fish. When the most palatable food on the table is the tater tots, you don't leave feeling like you got your money's worth.

Beautiful atmosphere. Variety of food choices for those who are Gluten and Dairy free. The Pork Chop was amazing, and the bartender even made me a martini that was not on menu. Service was very good too, Highly recommend.
Went out for my wife’s birthday and it was wonderful! Great food and smart nice staff. This is a favorite elegant place to eat and not really very expensive considering how good it is. Highly recommend.

Fresh Salt delivers a terrific dining experience from start to finish. The atmosphere is relaxed but elegant, with a beautiful view that sets the tone before you even sit down. The food was outstanding, fresh and thoughtfully prepared, with flavors that felt both coastal and comforting. What really made the evening, though, was the staff. Our server, Darcy was attentive without being intrusive, warm, knowledgeable about the menu, and genuinely welcoming. The entire wait staff worked together seamlessly, creating a sense of ease throughout the meal. It’s the kind of place where you feel taken care of. Highly recommend for a leisurely lunch, special dinner, or any time you want to slow down and enjoy a meal made and served with care.

Upon arrival, we were ushered into a previously unfamiliar small, crowded, and, ultimately noisy dining room. Tables were way too close to one another and we were as much a part of our neighbor's conversation as we were our own. Server took too long to greet us, never brought the promised rolls and butter. He seemed a bit overwhelmed... That said, the food was superb. Of special note was the extensive wine list, the arugula and anchovy salad, the swordfish special. Sorry, no room for dessert (but maybe that's a good thing).

We thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday brunch at Fresh Salt! The lobster extravaganza had several unique and delicious selections and abundant lobster. We had a nice table overlooking the water. Our waitress, Kristen, was excellent! All the servers and cooks were extremely helpful and friendly. My wife has a gluten allergy and she had several delicious choices and the staff also made another special dish to accommodate her allergy. We felt very welcomed and will definitely be back in the future!

I was absolutely blown away by Fresh salt! We made reservations a few days in advance and were quickly seated. The food arrived so fast, we barely waited! I got the sautéed salmon and the others got swordfish as well as fried calamari. Both types of fish had a perfect cook to them and the sides were fantastic! The swordfish was rich and buttery and the salmon had a crisp edge and a juicy inside. I cleared my plate! The others also got desserts. The salted caramel gelato was absolutely incredible, rich and creamy with a clearly high quality caramel drizzle. I would absolutely recommend Fresh Salt, we had a great dining experience and I cannot wait to return.
