It's a small intimate restaurant with a huge amount of character! Food is fabulous, service was fast and friendly and the environment made us feel right at home. It was a cold rainy night and the Himalaya Cafe was a bright spot through it all!
Best malai kofta I’ve ever had!! And the staff is super friendly! A+ … would highly recommend

A Cozy, Romantic Gem with Truly Delicious Authentic Indian Food
Himalayan Café in Old Saybrook is not your typical Indian restaurant, it’s much better! It has a warm, romantic atmosphere—with soft lighting, plush seating, and fluffy pillows that make you want to stay a while. The meals are prepared authentically and traditionally. Our dinners were absolutely delicious,
The service was excellent. Our server was extremely kind, accommodating and informative.
This restaurant is the best Indian restaurant my husband and I have ever dined at.
Looking forward to returning very soon.

Very good food. They spice it to your liking. Very accommodating to food alterations. We didn’t want cream and they were fine with that. Great atmosphere as well.

We had a great time at this fine Indian establishment which serves vegetarian, non-vegetarian , vegan and gluten free dishes. We ordered butter chicken (the best we ever had) shrimp coconut curry, gobi chilli bites, crispy chickpea chaat, jalapeño naan— all so fresh & delicious. This place has such a wonderful ambiance and warm service.

This was such a gem to find! The food was absolutely exceptional, with flavors that were authentic and luxurious. We had the saag paneer and the daal tadka and it was so unique and delicious. The naan was also the perfect consistency of light, stretchy and crunchy on the bottom from the tandoor. I cannot say enough how much I loved eating here! It is by far the best cuisine in town, and is comparable to amazing and authentic Indian food in NYC, Philly, and Edison.

Best Indian food I’ve had in the northeast. I lived in NYC for 15 years, NJ before that, and while I had some good stuff in my time, Himalayan Cafe is tastier than anything I’ve had. It’s a real unassuming hidden gem, well worth checking out. Their vegetable korma is the best I’ve ever had. I HIGHLY recommend it. I usually do take out but yesterday my fiancée and I ate on their patio and it was lovely. They threw in an extra chickpea and yogurt dish that was wonderful and gave us a hot sauce to spice up our dishes as we both opted for mild but were interested in going spicier.

We just tried it for the first time. Loved the ambiance in the dining area and all the food was delicious. Highly recommend the butter chicken and yellow dal. Service was great as well. We'll definitely be back.

THE best Indian food we have ever had by far!!! Deserves higher than 5 stars. Everything we got was perfect, such great flavors and high quality ingredients and presentation. We over-ordered and it was still so reasonably priced. Vibe was great inside. Our waitress was very attentive and nice, she comp’d our dessert after we told her it was our first time there. Genuinely it will be hard to beat this food and I’ve had a lot of Indian food in my life. You need to get the chicken tandoori, paneer tikka masala, and garlic naan… you’re welcome. Didn’t get pictures of our mains but had to take ALL of our leftovers home :)

I just had the most amazing experience thanks to Seema, one of the kindest and most generous people I’ve ever met. We didn’t have cash on us, and she went out of her way to make things easy by letting us pay through Zelle—something you rarely see, and it truly showed how thoughtful and accommodating she is.
On top of that, Seema surprised us with free pudding and sodas, which was such a sweet and unexpected gesture. Her warm smile, kind heart, and genuine hospitality made the entire experience unforgettable. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever met anyone as nice as her in a restaurant setting.
Seema, thank you for being such a beautiful soul—you made our day, and we’re so grateful for your kindness. People like you are rare! 💛
