First time coming here and before I even ordered the sweet little lady gave me a cup of tea. I’ve been looking for a sushi place to go to since I moved here and the vibe was definitely it. Looks like they make everything in front of you and it was all delicious.

Very good food and people. Pleasant atmosphere. Complimentary hot green tea & matcha ice cream balls when you dine in. Tonkatsu was very good, tender & flavorful pork cutlets with cabbage salad. All the rolls are good, can’t go wrong here

The food was delicious! I opted for Korean cold noodles and kimchi dumplings. My slighter got a cucumber avocado roll and edamame. I will definitely be back. Just awesome!

I must warn you, dear reader, I cannot praise Sushi Red enough. There are no words to perfectly describe my experience, but to say nothing would be an injustice; I will try my best.
First, I ask you to understand something. Many reviews I’ve read involving American sushi spots usually focus on “big” and “bold”. If you’re looking for that kind of “grand” experience, I need inform you that you will not find that at Sushi Red, and I cannot express how wonderful it is to say that.
The atmosphere is sublime, if you enjoy a homey, inviting, and simple dining experience. This cozy shop immediately welcomes you, with simple yet comforting decorations. But please understand, the space is small; it cannot accommodate too many people, so you will more than likely need to check if they can sit a large party.
Second, if your experience should be like mine, you’ll be served tea when you sit down. I highly recommend you do not skip it. I am almost certain that they brew it in house, and it tastes phenomenal and warm. I did not feel the need to order any drinks, the tea was the perfect pairing to everything we enjoyed.
Third, the sushi was delightful, but I warn you: it was possibly the least American “American-sushi” I’ve ever had. Back when I was younger, I visited Japan with some friends. The style of sushi in Japan is very different from how it’s served in America, but the sushi I had across the pacific and the sushi I had sitting in my little booth shared the same warmth of Japanese food. The flavors are not complex, they are simple and delicate; exactly how sushi was intended to be consumed. From the nigiri, to the salmon roll, to the Volcano roll, each roll was specially crafted to promote a simple, refreshing combination.
Fourth, we were encouraged to try one of their new dishes, so we ordered the tonkotsu; a breaded pork cutlet dish, served with a cabbage salad and sauce. One bite, dear reader, and I sunk into bliss. The combination of cutlet, cabbage, and sauce created a thoroughly enjoyable flavor, that was neither overwhelming nor bland. Once again, the simplicity behind the food was evident, but also it was clearly made with care. A warning, however. The tonkatsu, to me, is really a full meal on its own. I was dining with my girlfriend, so splitting it was no problem, but between a full plate of cutlets and sushi, I am glad we didn’t order too much by accident. Also note, the dish does not come with rice in any way. This was fine for us, because the sushi was all the rice we needed, but if you plan to have this as an entree for yourself, maybe ask for a bowl of rice to go with it. If you happen to have someone who’s not a huge fan of sushi, the tonkatsu is a fantastic option for those who’d want a non-sushi option.
Fifth, the duo that run the shop are amazing. Their care, compassion, and thoughtfulness in their work is unparalleled. Please treat yourself as a guest in their restaurant, and I am sure you will be well taken care of.
To wrap up my review, I can describe Sushi Red using so many positive words: clean, bright, simple, and peaceful. To use one word: きれい (kirei).
If you come to Sushi Red, you come for warm, delicious Japanese “soul food”. Relax, and enjoy the meal.

This was the most peaceful meal I’ve had in my life. The tea was a wonderful introduction to Sushi Red; warm, unassuming, with a gentle earthy flavor. The sushi was incredible. It was simple yet delicate, delicious, and clearly made with love. The tonkatsu was absolutely stunning, with a sauce that harmonized perfectly with the pork cutlet. Walking out, it felt like my soul had just gotten a massage. We will definitely be back!

This is the best sushi I've had in CT. Everything tasted fresh, and the presentation was really nice. The menu has great options for a good price. The service was amazing, and the owners were lovely. I couldn't finish everything so the owner packed it up with some extra wasabi, ginger, and chopsticks like we were getting takeout. We're already talking about going back with family.
