Had an exceptional meal here! So many vegan options— just like in the other reviews the owner/chef came to the table and laid out tons of options. I got the potato burrito and it was huge and delicious! GO HERE!

This was such an adorable place. It felt like a local spot found in the Hallmark movies. Recently had brunch with my daughter at The Sandy Hook Café. It was an absolute delight from start to finish. Nestled in the heart of Sandy Hook, CT this cafe exudes a cozy yet vibrant charm, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing brunch. We chose the booth by the front window box that was sweetly decorated for the holiday. There were couple other booths, a high-top table, and several two/four-top tables. Tiny space but a gigantic, interesting menu. Good for takeout as well. There is a small outdoor seating area overlooking the river. We were greeted by Ralph, the owner/chef. He was friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. He proudly described all of the interesting specials (his own creations) and it was difficult to decide as they all sounded simply wonderful. We went with the blackened eggs benedict with salmon special, and the breakfast burrito. All fresh ingredients, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. It’s an inviting space where you can linger over your meal without a care in the world. Sandy Hook Café is a hidden gem that’s worth every penny. I will definitely be becoming a regular.

My wife and I along with our 3 young children stopped here after the Sandy Hook tree lighting. It was getting late and I thought they would have been closed, but they welcomed us in anyway. We placed our orders and settled in. I had the Philly cheese steak on a hard roll and it was unlike any Philly cheese steak ice ever had before. It was delicious and a little spicy. After I finished, the owner came by to check on us. He asked our names and that's when we both realized we knew each other from college about 20 years ago. I couldn't believe it. Ralph has always loved meeting people and making others happy, so it doesn't surprise me at all that his cafe is so great. Even back in college, he loved cooking for others. When he stops by your table to check on you, believe that he is being completely genuine and actually cares that you have a great experience. I expect to be back here a bit more frequently now that I know this place is being run by someone who has always given their all for others without asking for anything in return.

Delicious and freshly prepared food served in a cozy atmosphere. It was a crisp fall day but still enjoyed eating on the deck with a beautiful view of the river babbling by. The owner was very friendly and made you feel welcome, despite it being super busy. We will definitely come back to try out the many other tempting menu items.

We had a great experience at this café, especially thanks to Ralph’s suggestion of the gluten-free and dairy-free pizza. The pizza here was delicious! The crust was perfectly crispy, and the toppings were fresh and flavorful. It’s so nice to find a place that caters to dietary restrictions without sacrificing taste. We’ll definitely be coming back!

How have I not been here yet!?? Easily one of the best meals I have had in Newtown. I have heard so many times how delicious the food is and how beautiful the atmosphere is. I sat outside and enjoyed some schnitzel and a go on park. The owner Ralph was SO nice and accommodating. With so many different choices on their menu I wasn’t sure what to pick so I went with Schnitzel with potatoes, gravy, onions, red cabbage and beet salad. I can’t even tell you how amazingly delicious this was. I quite literally licked my plate clean. I will be a regular from here on out. If you have not been, get in your car and get over there

The food was INCREDIBLE!!! Best frittata I've ever had, amazing peach salad, the most sophisticated French toast. It's not fast food, so come only if you have time to enjoy prepared from scratch meals.

Wow, this place is heaven. I don't even know where to start. First off, the location overlooks a beautiful stream with outdoor seating to ensure you can enjoy the view on a lovely day. The menu, offering a balanced list of options, is loaded with delicious food. If you don't believe so, just wait till you see it. It's presented in large servings, but also so beautifully that people were quite literally oooh-ing and aaaah-ing over their own food, but also their neighbors, so much so as to comment on eachothers dishes and spark up short discussion. The owner was so friendly and very attentive to his visitors, balancing his time well so that no need was unmet. I'm genuinely impressed. I only wish I had more time to try more on the menu. My pizza was so lovely. I've never imagined I would pair the words light and refreshing with pizza, but here we are. I didn't leave any crumbs. Will be back.

Parking: There is plenty of parking between the few spots in front of the cafe and the large parking lot to the side of the building.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Sand Hook Cafe, and I must say, it was an extraordinary experience from start to finish. The food here is truly spectacular—some of the best I have ever had. Each dish is crafted with such precision and care that it deserves to be served in a more formal, high-end restaurant. The flavors are exquisite, and the portions are incredibly generous.

What sets Sand Hook Cafe apart, however, is the incredible pride and dedication of the owner and chef. Their passion for creating exceptional food is evident in every bite. The attention to detail and the quality of ingredients used are nothing short of amazing. You can truly feel the love and effort that goes into every dish.

The staff at Sand Hook Cafe are equally impressive. Their kindness and attentiveness make the dining experience even more enjoyable. They go above and beyond to ensure that every guest feels welcome and well taken care of.

Overall, Sand Hook Cafe is a hidden gem that offers an unforgettable dining experience. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for delicious food, generous portions, and outstanding service. This place is a true testament to what happens when passion meets talent. I can't wait to return!

Stopped by to sit and wait for my kid’s sport events to finish ( a few hours); owner and staff were cool about me spreading my work stuff across a table to work ; got a coffee and a piece of cake later on - both were nice and the people here were just nice and happy with smiles
