Steak was ordered medium-rare; arrived charred on the outside, purple on the inside. Served with a mound of bland mashed potatoes and some asparagus. The asparagus was fine, at least. Meanwhile, the fettuccini “di mare” was a big plate of pasta with a few scallops the size of peanuts, a minuscule piece of lobster, and a couple shrimp. For some reason, the owners make the bizarre choice of playing really obnoxious club music at a volume juuuust too loud to ignore.

I’ve been a loyal customer of this restaurant for years, but my birthday experience was very disappointing. I ordered Fettuccine di Mare for takeout and clearly requested it prepared normally, with red sauce on the side. Instead, I received plain boiled pasta with seafood and sauce on the side, which was not what I ordered.

When I called to explain, I was told it was a “miscommunication” and asked to return for a remake. When I arrived, I waited about 10 minutes without being acknowledged. Several staff members were present, yet no one spoke to me, and the overall attitude felt hostile and dismissive. At that point, I felt uncomfortable and honestly afraid to eat the food that was handed to me.

I’m sharing this because I truly liked this restaurant, but this experience—especially on my birthday—was upsetting and unacceptable.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was unacceptable, especially for what is supposed to be a high end Italian restaurant.

We were celebrating a birthday when our broccoli rabe appetizer arrived with a cockroach in it. That alone is horrifying, but what followed made it worse. After notifying staff immediately, it took approximately 45 minutes before a manager finally came over to address the situation. During that time, there was no sense of urgency, reassurance, or professionalism from management.

When the manager finally arrived, instead of taking responsibility, they attempted to blame the incident on a delivery of broccoli rabe, as if that somehow excused serving a cockroach to a guest. The responsibility lies with the restaurant to ensure food safety before anything reaches a table.

They offered a round of drinks, but after an incident like that, everyone’s appetite was completely gone and the gesture felt pointless. To make matters worse, they only comped the appetizer and offered a 50 dollar gift card as compensation. For a situation involving a cockroach in the food, on a special occasion no less, this response was completely inadequate. The entire meal should have been taken care of without hesitation.

Between the sanitation issue, the excessive delay in management response, the deflection of blame, and the poor attempt at making things right, this was a deeply disappointing experience. A restaurant that presents itself as upscale should be held to a much higher standard. I will not be returning, and I would strongly caution others against choosing this place for any special occasion.

Unfortunately I have to give 1 star after the way our visit ended. I dined tonight at Matto with two of my friends. This is usually our spot to get together at and catch up, and we've always enjoyed dining here. Tonight sealed the deal that we will never set foot in this place again. All was well until we were paying our bill and getting ready to leave. I happened to look over at the kitchen for no reason in particular, and immediately noticed a man with a grey baseball hat turned backwards talking to a male server in the pizza area, next to the paper towel holder. I noticed him because he was blowing his nose profusely. I thought to myself this really isn't the place to be doing that, around food prep, etc. and I hoped to see him wash his hands! Well, he went on to twist the paper towel and shove it and twirl it up each nostril. He then wiped his nose, balled the paper towel up and tossed it, THEN PROCEEDED TO WALK BEHIND THE LINE AND START COOKING. I couldn't believe what I witnessed. I wanted to vomit. Not to mention the server he was talking to while he did this said nothing and didn't flinch as if absolute disgustingness in a kitchen didn't just happen in front of him. I immediately asked for the manager, and told him what I saw. He apologized, but didn't seem shocked or concerned. Maybe this is the norm? Didn't even make any mention of how he would handle this. I watched for a few minutes after I spoke to him and he never said a word to the cook even though he was directly in front of him expediting plates. Absolutely unacceptable that this happened. Not only is it gross but on top of it, it's that time of year where illness is going around and this is what your cooks do? Never again will we set foot in this place. If this is what's happening in front of our eyes in an open kitchen setup, what's happening behind our backs? NASTY.

Food was very good, but service was not great. Food delivery from ordering was slow. Waitress was inattentive and from when we sat down it took 2 hours to get our meal and check.

Had a quick snack and a couple of Sangrias today. The red wine sangria was delicious with plenty of fresh fruit and the charcuterie board was delicious. It was served with fresh bread and seasoned oil.

Came with 4 couples , right away the waitress said she was tired. The service was down hill.Asked for a Tito’s w/ seltzer and pineapple, forgot the pineapple and brought a glass and said add it. Ordered dinner, gnocchi bolognese and brought out twice, pasta with pesto and two of us had to wait while everyone else was eating. The manager came out and heard the issue and said he will take care of it on the bill. He also did nothing and the crappy waitress got her 20% gratuity because it was automatically added to the bill because there was eight of us.This was on Friday night Sept .5th.So whoever the manager was , I’d love to hear his excuse!!

Food wasnt that good and the drinks were disgusting. I couldn't even finish my 15 dollar drinks because they were absolutely disgusting. My salmon wasnt that good either. Service took forever as well. The gentlemen explained they were short staffed which is understandable

But oh my god those god awful drinks. I couldn't even enjoy them. Ugh
