We were in the area for a celebration of life. The rooms are newly renovated. There was a slight odor in the corridors from the paint and carpets, but the rooms were wonderful. The Bistro staff was friendly and enjoyable. The food was good, but not a lot of options.
Cable TV didn't work the entire time as stated by front desk it was an area thing (it wasn't, the lobby had cable as did the neighboring establishments. I couldn't just relax in the room (sure there was netflix but I watch the news). Normal CYS have actual avocado made for breakfast on the avocado toast, not squeezed out of a tube on the bread and in a cup for the burrito (yeah you could tel it came out of a tube-- looked like someone squeezed it out of a toothpaste bottle (Rosa was a pleasure tho and remembered my order). Reversed hot/cold too me a bit to figure this one out LOUD fn HVAC between the front area and bedroom area Fitness area was hot (@78F) and gross but had to use it with torn up treadmills. The towels had been refreshed each day but its strange they don't empty the trash every day too. Yes I know your hotel was under construction but I was in a "newer" room and many of these things have nothing to do with construction.
I was a Marriott loyalist during my long business career and have stayed at many Marriott properties over the years, as well as other comparable properties. We booked a "mini-suite" at this property in order to attend a wedding in the area. First of all, the pictures on the hotel's website for this room type are very misleading. The room layout -- specifically the sitting area -- is nowhere near what you'll see online. We needed the mini-suite because we need two sleeping areas. When we entered the room, we discovered that the "sofa bed" was a strange looking piece of furniture that was pushed tightly against one wall. There was no coffee table or other amenity in this area. The placement of the sofa bed meant that in order to put sheets on the bed, I had to crawl on top of the bed and drag them into place. Also, there was no room to tuck sheets or blankets under the "mattress" (which was actually a thick three sectioned pad) because the pad was tightly attached to the frame. The "sitting area" also contains a full sized frig and dishwasher but only a microwave. The workspace in this area has a countertop and two stools but the stools are placed so closely together that two people can't sit and work comfortably side by side. The lighting is poor and some wasn't working. I could go on about other deficiencies of this room but will just say this: if you need a larger room with multiple sleeping spaces, go down the road to the Marriott Residence Inn. We recently rented a lovely two-story two bedroom penthouse suite there for the same price. It included a complete kitchen, two baths, comfortable sitting and dining areas, and convenient workspaces. Unfortunately it wasn't available when we stayed at the Courtyard.
Delicious drinks made by Grace!
For the price of almost 275.00 for one night. I was expecting a very nice stay at a Courtyard. Yes they are under renovation but the place is an overpriced dump. Like others have said dirty, old, and just gross. After a long drive from the Mid lant region. I made a reservation in a hurry to get off the road after a long day. The property is nasty trash everywhere construction equipment blocking spaces, the hallways had debris and it smelled like weed. I was traveling with my 6 yo. This is unsatisfactory for a Marriot and I am even more mad I stayed there. So do yourself a favor and keep driving, sleep in your car or better off at a cheap Motel.
We stayed in two rooms and were very disappointed at this hotel. We have stayed at many Courtyard/ Marriott properties and this one was one of, if not the poorest maintained. The reservation was made a month ahead of our stay and because of all the graduations (reason for our trip) the hotel charged exorbitant prices for poor facilities. They also had no compassion for our plight as we had to change our booked hotel because two months after making our reservation they went pet-friendly (all Hiltons) and I have severe allergies. The front desk person was very friendly and efficient-appreciated after a long day. The issue started with a minor annoyance- no floor readout in the elevator and progressed to filthy carpets and banged up walls and renovation equipment in the hall . The halls and elevators were also extremely HOT. Our rooms were not any better- nasty stains all over the carpet and sofa, mold and a missing tile in the bathroom. The grab rail in the shower was loose and the toilet was so low that a child would best fit it. No water pressure in the shower. The A/C was also extremely loud. I realize that many of these items will be taken care of during the renovation, however to charge $350/night for a room in this condition is criminal. To top it off, unlike most hotels in this and other chains, there was no included breakfast or courtesy bottled water for rewards members. Also, in the morning all the elevators were being used by the construction and cleaning people so we had to use the stairs to go out to get food. Word of warning if you are still considering staying here in the near future… the construction is a couple rooms at a time on a guest floor and they not only hog the elevator at check out time but noise starts at 9am so don’t think of sleeping in. Why aren’t they doing a floor at a time so they could leave their equipment out of the way and free up the elevators.
Very nice clean hotel with friendly desk staff. Were very accommodating when we arrived early because of a major snow storm. The bartender Grace was outstanding. Very good at her craft and was enjoyable to all of the guests there. She’s a great employee. Would recommend
We stayed at the Marriott Courtyard for three nights over the holidays. The staff was very attentive to our needs. We unfortunately had a smoker in a room somewhere near us and the room smelled of it. The staff had to moved us twice, because the second room smelled of smoke as well—coming through the vent in the bathroom. However, the staff quickly and efficiently changed our room, and the third room was the charm. I did have some concerns that if we smelled cigarette smoke coming through the vents, then how safe from Covid particles were we? The staff was excellent, especially those that had to work on Christmas Eve and Day. The room itself was very clean and comfortable, despite this issue. We have stayed at many hotels in the area and stayed here because we had Marriott points expiring. I do not think we would stay again as there is no free breakfast and other hotels that are nicer. We had major issues with the Marriott Residents Inn down the road as well, which was very unsafe.
This hotel should be removed from the Marriott system. Either it is a poor representation of a mid-scale hotel in Marriott property system or the bean counters at Marriott have gotten too greedy and don't care about their customers anymore. It felt more like a roadside motel - worn carpets, poor lighting, torn fabric on the lobby sofas, poor ventilation. The hotel was busy - the friendly front desk clerk said many families book for the weekend. The poor hotel elevators were overmatched for the crowds. I'm glad I was only there one night - it was a depressing reminder of how bad hotels can be.
We visited New Haven on a trip across the country, wanted to eat pizza in New Haven and this worked out well! Easy check in, clean room and with two weddings in the house very quiet! No breakfast, please note. Pool and gym very good, Highly recommend!

I'm a fan of the Courtyard by Marriott chain, as I've always had positive experiences with them, so I was pleased to see that this was the hotel of choice for a wedding I attended recently. The staff were a bit harried in checking in everyone at the same time, but the checkin process otherwise went smoothly. Our room was decently sized, although the bathrooms were a bit small and the carpets outdated. The bed was really comfortable, though! Staff took good COVID precautions - I saw staff sanitizing surfaces frequently, and there were hand sanitizer stations. The hotel is centrally situated, with restaurants conveniently located nearby, and the hotel provided a free shuttle to the wedding venue.
We have been staying at this location for many years. It is clean, accommodating and very comfortable. The manager and staff are very personable, friendly and attentive. We use this facility to meet up with our son and our 2 granddaughters. We strongly recommend this Courtyard Marriott in Shelton, Ct., especially during the COVID-19 period. They were very careful about disinfecting and supplying stations to clean your hand throughout the facility. We plan to continue using this hotel in the future.
The facility is in disrepair. The front sign is not lit. Not all the elevator buttons light. I had the unlucky experience of a Smokey room and key cards that did not work consistently. The bathroom is very small. It is hard to open the door without standing over the toilet.
I stayed here for one night to see my grandson play baseball at the University of New Haven . Hotel was outstanding, clean, room was large. Room had a 46" TV coffee maker, chair and ottoman, refrigerator and microwave, iron, iron board, hairdryer. Front desk personnel I think her name was Danielle was super friendly. Hotel had a large indoor pool, business center, and cafe. I will definitely stay here again.
Hotel was nice and clean and check in and check out was fast. The hotel is located in a great area with restaurants and shopping. Was looking for some night life but it was a little on the cold side. Will definitely stay here again
