Food was delicious: We had fish and shrimp tacos, and nachos- all were superb, and the homemade chips really made the meal.
Service was also excellent.
And while the outside of the building is a bit underwhelming, the restaurant up one floor is warm and inviting.

I’ve just discovered this wonderful Mexican cantina in Torrington. It is a second floor bar and dining room with rooftop seating in season. The menu is mainly fresh tacos and similar, not so much the heavier baked dishes so prevalent at most Mexican restaurants. The flavors are wonderful, the decor is elegant and the music authentic Mexican. They have live jazz on alternate Fridays, so I am planning to return soon.

We ordered chorizo nachos for an appetizer. They were quite good if not a bit messy. We barely started eating them when one of our entrees arrived: three tacos. The chicken and beef tacos were overcooked. The fish taco was quite good. The last entree arrived while half way through the nachos. That was a steak fajita. I ordered the steak medium rare, but it was almost well done and as tough as leather. I had to spit out two pieces and declined to eat the rest. The rice was hard and dried out, so I also skipped eating that.

The waitress asked if we were OK after we were finishing up. The wait staff was generally quite rushed and inattentive.

The dining room is extremely loud and the lighting cold and harsh. The space could definitely do with some softening up.

While not the worst dining experience I've ever had, we definitely won't be coming back.

I had super high expectations for this place- however it changed when we walked in. The bartender was super friendly but our server not the same. We ordered quite a bit of food and 3 out of four of us got our food and then we waited for the fourth plate for about 8 extra minutes. The food was very flavorless and dry. The atmosphere was beautiful. We had ordered from the “raw bar” and it was a bowl of pico de gallo with a tiny bit of seafood served with 5 crackers. I’m just very disappointed in both the service we received and honestly the food we were served.

By far the best Mexican restaurant in town! The owner is amazing and makes you feel right at home and some of the best service I've seen. The food was amazing and fresh and the staff is incredible. You absolutely need to check this place out! Monday night trivia with host Kelsey is an absolute blast!

If you are looking for AUTHENTIC and FRESH Mexican food, this is your place to go!! Not only is their food amazing but their drinks are the bomb. The owners are absolutely amazing & make this restaurant an experience in itself. You will find yourself building a friendship with the owners and staff here, a family! Their jazz nights are also a huge hit as well as their trivia nights. I highly recommend trying out some of their food!! Even if you want to just come on down to take a look, it’s so much worth it. Don’t miss out on their happy hours & getting to sit on their rooftop seating for these beautiful nights!!

Their menu features standout dishes. The house-made corn tortillas and tableside guacamole are must-tries, elevating your entire meal.

Service is excellent, with attentive staff ready to recommend drinks.

Casa Valijo beautifully captures the essence of Mexican culinary heritage, making it an unforgettable dining experience. Highly recommended!

My wife myself and my in-laws, went there last night for our date night. Kinda cool it actually was also a Trivia Night, even though I lost I still had a great time!

I had the Red fried Snapper dish with rice and beans! It was amazing, as a Jamaican that loves seafood and is very picky about how fried fish is prepared. I was extremely impressed by the presentation and preparation of my dish. I would also like to add the that the service was out of this world, the owner and her husband made us feel welcomed and appreciated. They came out not only to check on the service but also spoke with us about the back story of the restaurant which was pretty cool and we learned about the owner and her story! It is always nice to put a face with a local restaurant!

Needless to say to say, based off the food the service and atmosphere. We will definitely be returning!

Food was phenomenal! seafood is genuinely fresh which is rare, meat is full of flavor without being doused in seasonings and salt. Drinks have a perfect balance and are delicious. Wonderful Service, got my drink within 5 or so minutes of ordering! Great spot for a date/anniversary/event worth celebrating! Will be coming back again and again!

New restaurant. The service is top notch. It’s a big place with lots of seating. I had the carnitas with mild sauce and wish I had the spicy version. There were no sauces on the table. Food was bland. My friend had the Mexican corn with the same complaint - bland. Drinks were great. This could be a fun place for happy hour.

This place was great from start to finish, they have an amazing happy hour, and all their entrees are appropriately priced. The atmosphere is great from the bar to the rooftop. The best food we have had in The area by far! Also 95 percent of the menu is gluten free for all you celiacs out there. Just a wonderful experience and can’t wait to go back!
