A Tale of Two Visits

Thank you to the owner of Square Peg in Vernon. I felt if I took the time to criticize my first experience, it was only fair ,and also important, to show gratitude when things are done right.

Thank you for responding to us so quickly when our first experience didn’t go as planned. Your willingness to make things right, brought us back for another try, and the food this time DID NOT DISAPPOINT!

We love a good Chicken Parm sandwich, and this was how you do it right. Excellent chicken, perfectly fried with ample amounts of cheese and terrific red sauce. We enjoyed every bite. We also had the fried mozzarella and these aren’t your run of the mill sticks. Nice large rectangles of fried mozzarella just begging to be dipped in red sauce and devoured.

Although the food was good, I appreciate even more the care to make things right. We believe in staying local for our dining choices and it’s nice to know this option stays on the table.

The pizza and all the food we ordered were amazing and very tasty, and the service was excellent. Sean and Katie were super helpful, and the rest of the staff were also very friendly and helpful.

Sadly this place has gone so down hill since it opened. Went in the other day for Happy Hour and only one man working the entire restaurant and bar and it took a half hour to get are first drinks and then an hour later are second the wings were very bad so we didn’t even bother ordering anything else. Soggy and poor quality meat even bringing them home and air frying them didn’t help…. also the most disturbing part was the women’s bathroom was shut down so I used the men’s. The whole mens bathroom was flooded with water and I couldn’t even get to the toilet without standing in an inch of water. The place also smelt like sewer the entire time 🤮 I honestly should call the health department but I’m leaving a review instead so that the owner can see this and hopefully make changes. It’s a shame this place was good when it opened.

I love Square Peg in Vernon. Food always fresh, drinks always delicious, and the service is top tier. Sean and Katie are incredible behind the bar and such great company! Alicia is also fantastic. Highly recommend.

I’m not sure what’s going on with this place lately. It’s really hit or miss. Sometimes the pizza is great, and other times it’s burned. The crust is so thin that by the time I get home—literally a 2-minute drive—it’s already cold, which makes no sense.

My biggest issue is the inconsistency, especially with how often the pizzas are burned. It honestly feels like whoever is making them is overcooking them and just putting them in the box before the manager notices. I actually brought a pizza back once, and the manager was extremely friendly. He gave me a gift card for the full amount and a free pizza, and you could see how disappointed he was when he saw how it came out. So the management is great—no complaints there.

But again, this time I ordered a small pizza and it was still way overdone, with the crust burned. It’s disappointing. And yes, I know someone might say, “Please call us for a refund,” but that doesn’t really fix the underlying issue.

Another thing: I love the drive-up window, but they took away the bell, so you can’t let anyone know you’re there. When I went inside to pick up my order, I saw one person on a laptop (I think the hostess?) and one person working the bar. Not sure what’s going on, but if I were the owner of this Square Peg location, I’d definitely look into it. Maybe place a few online orders on different days and see what kind of pizza you actually receive.

Vernon doesn’t want burned pizza—please fix this.

This place is awesome. I love Sean, Katie. The pizza guy is awesome Andres and makes the best pizza. The gm Alicia is new and she has a great repertoire to run this place! I'll definitely be back!
