The place and area is cute. But they have horrible parking. As well as they take forever and are very slow. I ordered a breakfast sandwich at 10:10 am and they were out of the rolls. I got an English muffin instead and didnt get my food until 10:40. They also have no almond milk, or wiped cream. Although the food was good it was not worth a 30 min wait it was just a sandwich.

Estimated wait time for my one sandwich was 25 minutes. I waited 45, and it was barely crowded. The man at the counter was rude and informed my friend and I that they did not serve whipped cream, did not have almond milk, and were out of kaiser rolls. It was 10am, mind you. The food was expensive and there was no opening or closing time for the different menus which made choosing a meal incredibly confusing. The wait time for the mediocre food was absolutely ridiculous. The atmosphere was cute, but snippy and judgmental. There is also barely any parking. I was really excited to try this place, but left beyond disappointed. It is laughable how unfortunate this experience was.

The location is perfectly situated in the heart of beautiful New Preston village, close to Lake Waramaug and fantastic hiking trails in the Litchfield Hills. The food is always delicious! Truly yummy and selections for everyone. All of those well-earned 5 star ✨ mentions don't hold a candle to the very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff! Always an authentic and upbeat welcome from each person who works here! I have to say, this is the magic ✨ piece of this super yummy local eatery. Grab a picnic table in the Sun 🌞 with your dog, or nestle into the comfy lounge chairs with oversized pillows indoors. Either way, you and your tribe can't go wrong here at The Smithy Cafe!

Unfortunately, we were abruptly informed that breakfast had ended at 11 — not by the kind young woman taking our order, but by the man hovering behind her, who cut us off mid-order. It would be helpful if the breakfast cutoff time was clearly listed on the menu or online, as we weren’t aware of it beforehand.

This is an extremely pleasant place - staff, decor, and, of course, the food. I believe they make the best sandwiches I have ever had.
I have ordered takeout sandwiches in the past and found them to be large and tasty, though expensive. I have not had any in the last 2 - 3 months but was shocked today when I got the sandwiches home after pickup. They were small: on each of two sandwiches maybe three very thinly sliced pieces of ham, one thin slice of cheddar cheese, tomato and lettuce, mayo on a hard roll. Frankly, I was shocked how meager they were and for a well-above-average price. I will not order takeout sandwiches again from 9 Main!
