The owners are such lovely people. They chatted with us as we dined. (you don't see that any more) The gift shop is adorable. It's cozy and inviting. I will go back again.

I love the food at the Grotto! The people who run the show are also extremely nice and their food is excellent!
I am so I said very disappointed with the Grotto Restaurant ! I would not recommend them to anyone. You would think a family-owned and operated business would care more about their customers than just " any place " online , That would be the reason why I went there when I was in this situation . Recently a very dear friend and colleague of mine had a death in his family and I was unable to attend the services , I felt so bad that I drove to the Grotto Restaurant to have a gift basket sent to his house. I explained to the owners the situation that I was in . I told them that I needed a gift basket to be sent out the next day Saturday and they said that would be NO PROBLEM ! We spent a considerably long time together talking about the basket and what needed to be in it. They asked me about the family the basket was going to how many people were in the family if they had kids etc. etc. to make the gift basket just right . This was so very important to me. They asked me how much money I wanted to spend , because they did not have any gift baskets pre-made due to the pandemic they made them as needed. Seeing that there was nothing to pick from , I said I was thinking about spending $100.00 and she said that would be more then enough to have a beautiful basket delivered . I said I wanted to spend all of the $100.00 so to put extra in the basket , she agreed. The owner told me she would put 2 containers of sauce , 2 pounds of pasta , salad dressing, coffee , cookies ect ... that they would really make it nice . I told her that I 100% trusted her judgment. I gave her the address and two phone numbers for the contact and of course I gave her my phone number and address. I gave her a $100 bill and then I left... Well Saturday came and went and nothing , a WEEK later my friend called and said that the Grotto was calling him with a delivery from me . A WEEK LATER! I immediately called the grotto and spoke to the owner and she told me that she apologized that she had a terrible week and couldn't make the delivery , that her husband broke his toe. And I told her I don't think that your week was worse than my friends his mom passed away!!! All they had to do would be to call me I could have went anywhere and had anything sent! After taking the time to explain to them that my friend had a pregnant wife and two young sons and it was very important for me to send this meal to their house on Saturday , you would think they would at least have the decency to call me and tell me they can't fulfill their obligation!! I was so very upset and embarrassed! They had 3 different phone numbers they could have called. Not to mention how disappointed I was with the basket they sent. I will include a photo. I could've called Amazon and had something delivered the next day with no problem . So much for Mom and Pop shops ,I'm done using them that's for sure. This post doesn’t let you include a picture so take my word it was not worth the money. When they finally delivered the basket they didn’t apologize or even inform my friend that they were a week late!
After reading reviews, we were very excited to try this restaurant. Unfortunately, the reviews were extremely misleading. I order the Zuppa Di Pesce with Fra Diavolo sauce and it was less than appealing. The sauce was a very odd tasting red sauce, with a very slight spice to it. The seafood was sparing and the portions were small for the price in comparison to other highly rated Italian places around CT. My husband ordered the Grotto Platter which was not even close to a "platter". Another extremely small portion. He states the sauce was thick and tasted at best like Chef Boyardee. The menu online states that entrees come with bread, butter, soup or salad, but when I had asked if the meal came with salad, the lady on the phone replied with, "we don't include those for take out orders, but it comes with bread and cheese". The menu does not state anything about differences for dine in versus takeout and the prices were actually higher than what the menu online states. After doing the math because the total we received seemed off, we called the restaurant back. They had told us their menu isn't updated and the prices were about $1 more each plate. That's fine, $1 is no problem, but we were told one plate was $18.95 and another was $14.95. They gave us a total of $40.30, which is still about $5 more after tax. The food was packaged in tall deli style clear plastic containers. Similar to what you would get potato salad in at the deli in a grocery store. We will not be returning to this restaurant.

Delicious food and good quantity for family meals.
I LOVE this place! Best house dressing, homemade pasta, delicious sauce, and adorable attached gift shop and dining area. I can’t wait to go back to this hole in the wall hidden gem!Ps. Gift baskets are amazing!
I don't know why Google has The Grotto listed as closed. That is wrong. They are open for dining, for take out and for Bernadette's gorgeous baskets for any occasion.
