We dined at La Mazet last night for my birthday with a party of 6, and the word that became overused by the end of the night was “underwhelming”. The menu here is served family style which is great in practice but service isn’t really conducive to this. We placed our reservation with a plan for some items we would order, despite the menu on their website not working, we were able to find a menu that someone had posted, and they had just changed the menu the previous week. We took our time in ordering, and our waitress never advised us nor even alluded to the fact that by 7pm a few menu items were “86’d”. We have spent considerable time in France, and dined at many French bistrots but had never been to La Mazet before, so had some questions about service and portion size since this was advertised that food served “family style” and we were a party of 6. There was really nothing on the menu that I will crave anytime in the near future. We ordered about 9 or 10 menu items. Pacing was sloppy, service between servers and busser was worse. Nothing distinguishably bad about the food, everything was prepared properly, but from a restaurant like this, one expects more.
Our selections included: Bread service, Brussel sprouts, Bone marrow, Pom frites, Bourguignon, le demi poulet, Chateaubriand, Flan, and espresso crème brûlée.

We went here for my girlfriend birthday last night at 7PM and the food and service was great, but they did not promise to put a candle on her dessert.
When I made the reservation, I specifically said that the occasion was for her birthday and I also called a couple hours earlier on our reservation day to make a note to the server, but they failed to do so. I shouldn’t have to ask again when we were dining.
EDIT: The general manager sincerely apologized about our experience.
Very lively on a Saturday afternoon.

My wife and I travel all over the world for amazing culinary experiences - Le Mazet Is one of our favorite restaurants anywhere we have been
- The food is incredibly high-quality
- There are many dishes I would classify as extremely hard to get in the US
- You can drink amazing French wine at a incredibly reasonable price
- The service is exceptional!

Our second time - even better than the first ?. Excellent food, service and fall outdoor dining experience with blankets, heat lamps and fall foliage. We felt like grown ups! ? Please see the photos as evidence of our fine dining experience.

The only ding on the service was that he didn't warn us before we ordered that the night's specials were TBA still. (We ate super early that day bc reasons.)
And then of course there was at least one entree one of us would have ordered... Oh well, at least the dessert special also was fantastic.

Today, my husband and I dined at Le Mazet.
We started with the “Bread Service” and the “Gnocchi” as appetizers. The gnocchi was a standout !! its truffle flavor was absolutely delightful! 10/10 ✅
For our main dishes, we had the “Rotisserie Half Chicken” and “Seared Striped Bass.” The chicken was tasty but I think it would be even better with a sauce on the side.
For dessert, we tried “Espresso Crème Brûlée.” It had a nice coffee taste that coffee lovers would enjoy.
Overall, we enjoyed our visit. Our server was friendly. The atmosphere was cozy and comfortable✅
Looking forward to return and explore more of the menu, especially the appetizers and desserts!?

Living just half a mile from downtown West Hartford, I have so many great restaurants to choose from, but my absolute favorite is Le Mazet.
This charming French spot has a cozy atmosphere that feels like a slice of France. The food is incredible—especially the coq au vin and duck confit, which are always made with fresh, high-quality ingredients.
Plus, the wine selection is fantastic, making it the perfect place to unwind after a long week or celebrate special moments. If you’re in West Hartford, you’ve got to try Le Mazet!
Parking: Parking street side in WeHa stinks. Get used to it and use the parking garage.

Went here on a Saturday night with my wife. The food was great, the service was good. The reason for the bad review is that we sat on the patio and it was beautiful out. However, half way through our meal the owner, Jared, pulled up in his truck and parked illegally out front of the restaurant, partially blocking a crosswalk. He left his hazard lights on as he and two friends exited and were there over an hour with the truck parked illegally. They sat at a table in the middle of the patio, and all sat on the same side of the table so they could leer at women as they walked past on the sidewalk. They seem like they would have been better suited at the Russian lady or a club in Hartford. My wife was visibly uncomfortable and creeped out by the owners behavior. Definitely not a place for a romantic date night

Phenomenal country style French. This restaurant can stand with any French bistro I've ever eaten at, and I just got back from 11 days in Paris. It's that good. Canard sandwich is literally addictive and I can't wait to have it again. The mussels stood out with a very flavorful and complex broth and the quality of the mussels themselves ... Soft and pillowy. Not a chewy one in the bunch. Wonderful service. Highly recommend.

Like a location portal, to the beautiful country of France, my wife and I were romanced by the atmosphere, service, and food. A date night, divine.
6:30 on Friday. A perfect time. The busy streets and sidewalks, filled just right with people, and movement. The weather just right, doors open, giving way to the feeling of being at an outdoor French countryside bistro.
The clatter of dishes, texture from the music, and cacophony from the guests, made for an inviting sensation.
Prompt service, polite but professional, a detailed run through the menus, yes, menus. Started off with sparkling water for once, a nice change from the norm. Potent but perfect aperitif, gin and herb-based, libations to kick off the night.
Grilled Brie, grapes, and thinly cut, toasted french bread slices. The lobster gnocchi w:peas, gentle, sweet, and luxurious. Filling but delicious.
A bottle of Bordeaux, Le Grave Fronsac. The perfect pairing with the duck cassoulet, and the steak frites.
The duck dish, amazing. Hearty, something a grandmother would have had for the family meal on Sunday. I wanted a dish, to go. The flat iron steak, perfectly cooked, without me being asked my preference, and a lovely sauce draped over it.
Dessert was mind blowing. The Pot de crème extravagant, sinful, salty, sweet, the definition of dessert. A macchiato to balance the sweetness sent my mind into space. The Millefeuille, a wonderful confection, the perfect ending.
We have eaten at a lot of nice restaurants in our adulthood, across the country even. Le Mazet is clearly in the top five. Everything was absolutely great. I also appreciated the personal, genuine touches from the Chef or owner on the menu. It was like being at a family’s house for dinner.
Highly recommended. You won’t be disappointed!
Parking: You can park in several places, in one of three lots, in the parking spaces that traverse the streets of WeHa center, or in the garage, a little bit of a walk away. There’s a fee. Fri/Sat nights can be challenging to find a spot. We took an Uber being three miles away. A nice option if you’re planning to have some drinks!
Wheelchair accessibility: Flat, sidewalk level floor. Looks like it would be accommodating.
