The food at Max's Oyster Bar was excellent as usual. The Brook Trout, Shrimp, and Chopped Salad were prepared perfectly. The Chocolate Beignets dessert was outstanding. Our server Kaylynn was excellent and attentive in handling our orders and making sure the timing of food and drinks was perfect.

Two couples had our get-together lunch at Max Oyster, a memorable experience in an area known for good cuisine. I was lucky enough to find the Perfect Appetizer: Charred Mediterranean Octopus. Elegance that I don't have the power to describe. The gigante beans were the ideal complement. The only thing in the area that even comes close is the Wild Spanish Octopus at Sole Proprietor in Worceser, Mass. This is world-class chefdom. I had Norwegian salmon. Perfect with the hoison chili glaze. Also, served with warm kimchi, which I had never had before, and fried rice. A regal dish. Two others had Icelandic Cod, which was a generous protion, and Steak Frites. Both said it was excellent. One had Max's Famous Paella. Very good, but slightly skimpy on the seafood. A few more scallops would have been just right. A disappointment, sadly, was the grilled asparagus side. $9.00, but with regular asparagus, no garnish or addition of any kind. They could take a lesson from Trattoria da Lepri in Ellington, CT. Bread was excellent. Drinks were reasonably priced. Dessert featured gelato, far superior to regular ice cream. I had an apple pie-like tart with vanilla ice cream, perfectly baked. Max Oyster is a real gem. Service was outstanding and friendly. Prompt but never rushed.

We have been here several times and thoroughly enjoy the food, service and ambience. Recently, we dined with friends and while it was good, it wasn't great as we have experienced before. Our original waitress seemed a bit distracted and then we learned that she left for an emergency. Another waitress took over and tried her best, but it was clunky. Our food took a long time to be delivered likely because of the wait staff turnover. I hope it's a one time exception as our prior experience was very good.

Everything was v good; food service and ambiance. They honored my request to sit by the window Drinks were ok, not spectacular We had clams casino, tuna tartar, fried oysters, short ribs . They gave us a tiny complementary appetizer, which was nice. Cocktails were : manhattan and a mezcal/prosecco drink We celebrated a birthday and they gave us a tiny dessert, complimentary.

Service was excellent as well as the hospitality... we didn't eat a lot of variety; the four of us had cherrytones and shrimp to start and three of us had paella and i had the Asian hot pot... all was excellent and cant wait to come back and try more variety....
Food was fantastic but the wait to get it was very very long. We sat near the door and saw people leaving who came in after us ! I feel like something must have happened to our order in the kitchen but the server didn't say anything to inform us about the delay. It's also super loud so prepare to scream at those sitting at your table !

I had a terrible experience on 9/24 at Max Oyster Bar in West Hartford. The service was extremely disappointing. We were seated at the bar and ordered two appetizers. The first one didn’t arrive until about 20 minutes later. After that, we placed our dinner order along with a second appetizer. The main course ended up coming out before the second appetizer, which is unacceptable. It does not take 30 minutes to shuck oysters. To make matters worse, the server then asked if I wanted the oyster platter “to go” after my entrée had already been served. By this point, I was frustrated and asked for a box. What really stood out was how little attention we received. The bartender barely checked in on our table and seemed far more focused on the bar customers seated directly in front of them. As a frequent Max customer, I’ve never had this issue at the Glastonbury location. Unfortunately, this experience was enough to turn me away from the West Hartford location altogether. 0
