It is amazing that after 20 years this restaurant still produces very good food with a changing seasonal menu. Eating in the bar area or the main dining room are both great. Our server Dan is excellent.

This is a nice restaurant but we would put it in the great category. We started with tasty cocktails. We shared an endive salad with apples and gorgonzola which was delicious. We then shared a calamari which was good but a little too breaded. The duck entree was a little fatty and had a strange tartine accompaniment but the grilled trout was excellent. Our server was very attentive but the atmosphere was nothing special. We would definitely return but would order differently.

Cafe Routier has been one of my favorite places...but last night was disappointing. Despite having a reservation, it took a while for a host to approach us. Who then walked away and another 5-10 min to set a table in a half empty room. It was the back room which had a pervasive musty smell and little ambiance. The food was fine as was the service. But we left feeling deflated....not expected and put in a less desirable room.

The lobster bisque and gazpacho were delicious starters; the grilled trout was wonderful but it was served over too much sauce, too many scalloped potatoes and onions and would have been nicer if served with some greens; the creme brulee was excellent and the sorbet a nice palate cleanser at the end of the meal. Tables for 2 were tight even when 4-tops were available and other twosomes were seated at them. Our waitress and her service made up for it but the restaurant could have been more accommodating.

We've been visiting Cafe Routier for years and its always a wonderful experience. The food is superb, the ambiance lovely and the service outstanding. We went last night for my mothers 90th birthday and had another memorable meal with them and as always they did a splendid job making sure everything was perfect. I can say without reservation that the cafe is a gem here on the shoreline and as locals, we go there often. Anyone looking for superb food, wonderful service and a most memorable meal should consider visiting, locals and tourists alike when in Westbrook.
