This place is very pretentious. If you are into that kinda thing you will like it. If not don't bother.

This was our first time dining at The Whelk! The food was so flavorful and fulfilling! We started with chilled shrimp, roasted oysters, and the deviled eggs. We split the broccoli and fish/chips and it was very savory. My mouth was watering as I took every bite! We also had a tropical mezcal drink and it was absolutely delicious. The almond cake and chamomile tea was top notch. Our waitress Nicole was so sweet and attentive. We will definitely return!!

Delicious food, friendly attentive staff, a warm and attractive environment. In an area full of options, The Whelk stands out, and entices you to come back.

Love this place. Food is always great. Wine selection is unique. Cocktails are fun.
We found dinner here to be a great value. Every dish was flavorful and unique. The only complaint was that the room was loud so probably wouldn't come here for an intimate dinner; more of a fun night out.

The food was great but it's really hard to hear the people at your table. I'd go back for sure. One of the best burgers I've had in a long time! Outstanding.

The Whelk never misses, always a fantastic meal here. Staple dishes are the deviled eggs, trout dip, crab toast, maitake mushrooms, squid ink cavatelli. Everything here is fantastic you can't go wrong!!

Table was ready for us when we arrived. The place was hopping! The service was excellent, friendly and attentive. The cocktails so fresh and delicious and the food so yummy! We tried a new menu item to us- the roasted broccoli salad with tahini dressing..loved it! Also the roasted oysters, deviled eggs with fried oysters on top, lIttle Gem salad, the chicken sandwich and the squid ink cavatelli with shrimp and chorizo was scrumptious! We woke up this morning still saying how good our meal was last night... that is always a good sign! We love to get a bunch of things and share everything... definitely a good place for this.

Excellent service from Jenn B.The food was good.Only problem they charge you automatic service charge of 20% . I'm not a fan of it because it is not a tip for our waitress.

I really like the food at The Whelk. Only drawback is that there's a really rude server there and she's been terrorizing customers for years. Otherwise a pretty good experience.

Been here several times. We love this neighborhood spot. Imaginative and well done menu, great drinks and hopping ambiance. Excellent service with attentive and fun waitstaff. We shared roasted oysters: good but probably too much stuff smothering the small sized oysters. Trout spread: excellent and generously sized. My entre shrimp & grits was great. My wife had the fried chicken sandwich: And I hope the chef takes note as this was the first bad dish I've had here: AWFUL and my wife was too polite to return it. Chicken was definitely undercooked and had strangely rubbery texture. The coating was a soggy mess.

Amazing selection of oysters! We also had the fanciest fish sticks on earth as well as pretty tasty toast with muscles. You can’t beat the location and we were lucky because it was unusually warm for a fall day so we enjoyed sitting outside. The cocktails would be worth a trip on their own too!!

This is probably a better place to eat in the summer when you can sit outside. The food is solid, but most of the dishes we had were way too salty and the fish was “lost in the sauce “. Roasted oysters were overcooked and too much topping, so the oysters were chewy and tasted like crispy cheese. The mushrooms and the octopus were the best things we had but both were incredibly salty. Octopus nicely cooked and tender. I asked for a piece of bread to have with the mushrooms and when I got the bill saw they charged me for a piece of bread - kinda chintzy IMO Seafood stew was worst dish. Other than a couple shrimp, the rest of the fish was completely undistinguishedable from the beans and other ingredients. Everything out of the shell, overcooked , and completely lost For a $200 meal, including two cocktails and a couple beers , I was totally underwhelmed
