Used to come here years ago and decided to try it again. I love the building and the patio, but now going on day 2 of food poisoning, so don’t think I’ll be back.

I used to enjoy Viva Zapatas, so I chose it for my birthday dinner this year. Big mistake. We were seated quickly and I ordered a Tamarindo margarita right after our drinks were taken. Chips and bean dip came out—great—but the margarita I was craving never showed. Halfway through my meal, I had to ask about it. Meanwhile, the staff was busy singing happy birthday to what felt like every other table. My boyfriend had even told our waitress it was my birthday. When I finally got my margarita, it was alongside the check. I figured they might still sing—especially since the waitress told us “no rush.” When I brought up the missed birthday mention, she said she thought my boyfriend was joking. Really? So now I’m supposed to beg for a birthday song? No thanks. The food was forgettable, the service was flat-out bad, and the experience was a letdown. I might be back someday, but not to celebrate anything.
I love the dive bar atmosphere but do not go for the food. I got the beef tacos and they were so soggy it was so messy and I feel just gross after eating that. Again love the atmosphere for just drinks, it’s fun and vibrant.

Dinner was nice but a little pricy for what you get. Great decor and space!
Tried to go to the bar side after dinner and the bouncer was very rude to our group (ages 30-35), bent each of our IDs in half and made a number of rude comments. We ignored it and tried to get a drink and were ignored for around 10 minutes until a kind local asked them to help us. Seems to be townies only kind of place for after dinner so I’d recommend you don’t stick around after 9pm or so if you aren’t a local - and a very young crowd as well (a little young to be at a bar that is). As we walked out the same bouncer insulted a couple of our group but thankfully we were out at that point.

Avoid if you like REAL Mexican food. Basics like tacos were horrible and service was slow. Drinks were too sweet and did not taste good.

Great, strong margaritas. A little expensive but quality is great and worth it. Small steak nachos were excellent

Was raised in Westport Connecticut, and we would get off the train either. we go to Mario's place or viva Zapata, and I can honestly say it's the best Mexican food this side of the border

Staff are super friendly, and the inside is a beautiful rustic home with local decor throughout.
They start each table off with chips and home made salsa, then we ordered the enchilada, steak nachos, and burritos.
The home made salsa is amazing, and they sell it to go as well.
The nachos could have used some additional toppings beyond the steak and cheese, but the steak itself was deliciously seasoned & the small size was great for a starter.
The mains were super filling and I loved their Spanish rice & refried beans.
For libations I got their house margarita, which was the best I’ve had in a long time. So good that we got a quart to take home.
Vegetarian options: There were a handful of vegetarian options for starters and mains
Parking: Large lot in the rear of the building, narrow driveway

We lived in CT for years and went to Viva often and loved it. We were traveling through the area and decided to stop for dinner - the quality of food has gone downhill and the service was poor. Disappointing but probably the last time we will be at Viva.
