We recently dined at The Tributary in Winsted, CT and had a very pleasant experience. What stood out the most was our server, George. From the moment we were seated, he was warm, attentive, and professional. He went out of his way to make our 2-year-old feel welcome, bringing her small touches of entertainment and checking in to make sure she was comfortable. That thoughtfulness made our meal much more relaxed and family-friendly, and it was clear that George genuinely cares about creating a positive experience for all guests.
The food was excellent—well-prepared, flavorful, and presented nicely. We enjoyed everything we ordered, and it paired well with the calm, clean, and inviting atmosphere of the restaurant. While the visit wasn’t extraordinary in every aspect, George’s service was certainly the highlight. His patience, friendliness, and attention to detail made the evening feel personal and enjoyable.
We left feeling appreciated as guests and grateful for the small ways George made the experience smooth and welcoming for our family. The Tributary is a clean, comfortable place to enjoy a meal, and we will definitely be returning for another dinner with friends and family.

This is a great restaurant that has been in business for many years. The food is always consistently excellent. The service is always consistently excellent. I highly recommend getting reservations before you go. The atmosphere is lacking a bit. While they have done things to modernize over the years, the entryway is rather cluttered and chaotic and the bathroom could use updating too. However, this does not stop us from coming back often!

Friends and I went after a day of climbing at Hanging Mountain. Our waitress was joking that they don't mess around and she was right. Starting with the salads that came with our entrees, we saw she was right, they were great appetizer sized salads which were very varied. Our entrees did not disappoint, they were all very healthily size and absolutely delicious. We got a piece cannoli cake as well, that was spot on. Very excited to stop back in next time I'm at Hanging Mountain.

Food is reliably good with a variety of selections. That being said, the place is fairly dark inside and in need of an update and facelift.
Too expensive for what you get. My salad came after my meal was served and my soup came with my meal. I asked for soup and salad to come before my meal.

Also, some people complained in other comments about the "outdated" decor and building. The structure is a historic part of the pre-flood days of winsted. I always love looking at the old pictures up on the walls! The staff are always very generous as well. They go above and beyond to give us great service. They always remember us, giving generous amounts of sides and an extra dessert here and there. People need to realize that privately owned businesses may not have the quick turn-over and staff volume. We prefer to support local!
