First time here at the restaurant, although I have been to The Line for other things. Took two friends for brunch and we loved it!! The ambiance was excellent (beautiful decor!), the service was on-point, and the food was next-level! We tried some of the baked goods, which were great, but I think I would have saved my calories for elsewhere. I had the turmeric-ginger tea, which had a really strong flavor. I also had the hangtown fry (served w lobster) and I asked them to sub in a biscuit for the toast and WOW . One of the best brunch dishes I have had in a LONG time. We also got the pancake to split, with blueberries and yoghurt - this has such a unique taste!! It was spongey and the yoghurt was surprisingly good as a topping - did not need any syrup. What a treat! Will definitely come again.

Pretty cool converted, restaurant / hotel. It's a bit echoey. Came here for desert and after dinner drinks. Deserts were pretty good, tried the apple pie. Will try the restaurant the next time I'm in town.

Had a delicious meal here with some friends the other weekend! It was absolutely beautiful upstairs, just loved the atmosphere. I would definitely go back. Will note the waiter suggested 2-3 dishes per person which was definitely not necessary. My group ordered: - Tidewater Salthouse: I'll be honest, this was my least favorite dish. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, I would suggest trying so many other dishes, but essentially the dish comes with tiny biscuits, some of which are filled with something, and then three different aged ham slices - Vegetable Mille Feuille: this was delish! - Roasted Brussel Sprouts: honestly it's hard to go wrong with Sprouts - Beets: absolutely delish. They were onto of labneh, just yum - Root Cellar Salad: this was my absolute favorite item. I wish I could order this to go! - Baltimore Canyon Lobster orecchiette: this was very good, but not life changing. Would love to go back and try more, but would order again no question for a 2nd time and 3rd time and so on would be the root cellar salad and the beets!

Beautiful setting, delicious local farm-to-table seasonal cuisine.

There are so many better restaurants in DC. The sauces are too heavy, the space cavernous and you get the sense that no one could figure out what the decor should be.... edgy modern and then a few french bistro touches? The timing of our meal was off, the fish bland and overpowered by the sauce. And one gets the impression that the staff is not treated well. I think this restaurant should realize it is not quite as hip and cool as it would like to believe. Go to Seven Reasons or Tail Up Goat for a far better meal!

After a little bit of a shaky start, I have to say we ultimately really loved this place. Located in a converted church, the restaurant is upstairs in a large airy space with a neat repurposing of the organ pipes into an interesting center piece. We got there at 9 and waited maybe about 5-10 minutes for our table. We tried to get drinks at the bar, but it was really busy and we put in the order but didn't get the drinks until we sat down. We were seated in a corner with a partner table and actually very comfortable chairs. The waitress was lovely and we did eventually get our drinks. We shared a bunch of things. The saltwater hams were ok, and probably the weakest dish of the night, but really only because everything else was delicious. I would highly recommend: -Root cellar salad: coming from the chef who created Woodberry kitchen, we knew the vegetables were likely to be excellent and the salad didn't disappoint. - Beets: something about the way they made the beets made it taste fresh off a grill, smoky and almost bbq-meat-y (in a good way). Hard to describe but I would definitely try it - Tuna steak- beautifully prepared, incredibly flavorful Others that were good but not as noteworthy were the whole wheat cavatelli (the flavors were good, but the whole dish was overpowered by the brussel sprouts, almost as if the cavatelli were an afterthought. But the sprouts were lovely) and the apple pie (probably just not really my thing). Cocktails were lovely. Ended off the night with a complimentary rose, box of sweets and a $20 gift certificate because it was Valentine's weekend! Overall a beautiful space, delicious food (with vegetables really being there star here) and exceptional attention to detail making the whole experience one that I would highly recommend!

(4.5/5) A Rake's Progress is located inside the Line Hotel, a 110 year old church that was transformed into a modern boutique hotel. My boyfriend and I decided to celebrate Valentine's Day here and they succeeded at making it a night to remember. Ambiance (5/5): A Rake's Progress was absolutely breathtaking! The restaurant is open and spacious, perfect for date night. The dim lighting made our dining experience very intimate and romantic. A unique chandelier made from old organ pipes is directly in the center of the establishment. Whoever designed this place paid close attention to detail. Bravo! Food (4/5): For starters we ordered the Lobster Orecchiette. This dish consisted of elbow shaped pasta with chunks of lobster, topped with a lobster bisque. My boyfriend and I both agreed that the dish was ok- nothing special. The lobster tasted fresh and buttery but the pasta on the other hand was on the firm side. For our entree we ordered the Bbq Quail and Roasted Rabbit. Both dishes were served to perfection! The meats were extra tender and juicy. The quail was served under creamy grits and was topped with a seasoned egg. Both paired beautifully with the quail, adding lots of flavor. The rabbit was wrapped in porchetta, served with greens, Brussel spouts and gnocchi. Sauce consisted of a balsamic reduction- once again, the sides paired deliciously with the rabbit. Portions were on the small side compared to other fine dining restaurants in the area. Prices were also a bit high- as you are paying for the overall experience. Service (6/5): Service is what made our dining experience memorable. Our waitress, Queen, was soooo kind-hearted and attentive. I don't think I've said "thank you" so many times in one sitting before (LOL). I had a terrible migraine as we arrived to the restaurant and she immediately brought me a peppermint tea on the house. This gesture was so genuine and thoughtful! In addition, she explained the menu to us and answered any questions we had. Her positive energy was greatly appreciated throughout the night. We cannot thank you enough! Since it was Valentine's Day they gifted every table with a box of candy and a $20 gift card. They also brought out a rose for the gals. This gesture right here is what made A Rake's Progress stand out compared to other establishments we've been to on Valentine's Day. Overall, we had a fantastic dining experience- nothing beats delicious food with a lively ambiance and outstanding service!

Really amazing brunch! Beautiful place and great servers. From the oysters with the snake oil to the coffee drinks and the ham and biscuits it was all incredible.

A phenomenal take on the modern American restaurant that takes your favorite food and cocktails and turns it up to 11 in the super local manner that makes A Rake's Progress unique. The menu excelled at creating a distinctive time and place in which we were enjoying our meal, emphasizing the fruits of MD, VA, PA, and The District.

Super cool renovated church with a modern feel. Great for groups as food is served family style. Atmosphere includes throwback hip-hop lightly playing in background. Vast choice in wines or creative cocktails. The bone in ribeye was succulent and cooked to perfection. So many side dishes to choose from and shAre which is great because you can eAt family style. Recommendations include thee beets, buttermilk mashed potatoes, and braised greens. To close out try the maple ice cream and berry galette. Staff is very attentive and are willing to accommodate food allergies. Great place for vegetarians or vegans.

I've been here twice now--the first time was for a friends birthday brunch and the second time was more recently when I went to the bar. both times I really enjoyed my experience. The time I was here and hung out at the bar I was with my husband and his parents and originally we were going to go to the bottom floor bar of the line hotel I think it's the Brothers and sisters restaurant bar, But it was super crowded and we couldn't find a table or even a place to stand; we were about to leave, and I remember that they had a Rake's progress upstairs. It was not crowded at all and was a much better vibe. Because it wasn't as crowded we got way better service from the bartenders and they talked to us about different spirits and local vermouths. We tried different kinds of apple brandy cocktails I got their version of a hot toddy which was super yummy. By the end of my time there I was in a great mood we had great conversation both with the group I was with and the bartenders and I had a nice buzz to see me through to dinner at Al Volo around the corner.

Went for dinner tonight with a friend. They took my allergies and sensitivities very seriously. Our server James even went out of his way to get my friend a small birthday cake. He was attentive to our needs and made us feel very special. Would definitely go back!

Celebrated my birthday here with a magnificent brunch. The atmosphere is completely unique. But somehow it’s still second to the food. Everything we ordered was both familiar and comforting but also new and exciting. Highly recommend. Honestly if I lived in DC I’d be here as much as I could.

(4.5 stars) Brunch here did not disappoint. It's not the cheapest brunch, each dish will run at least $20 and a cup of coffee is $4, but the food is comforting, the ambiance is very swanky and the interior of the Line Hotel interior is beautifully relaxing with the restaurant taking up the whole second floor lobby area. Some items were underwhelming: probably wouldn't get the ham and biscuit plate again (only really loved the most-aged slices) as $25 is steep and the house-made hot and burger sauces were both overpowered by the taste of fish. But, the main courses were so delightful. The standout had to be the pancake which comes served in a skillet and couldn't have been fluffier. The burger had this awesome crispness that gave each bite a nice crunch. The potato was creamy and slightly decadent, but a nice change of pace for a potato side dish, almost kind of reminded me of a latke. Also loved the steak and eggs, a beautiful seasoning on the meat with a great medium-rare preparation made it hard not to enjoy
