Hands down best authentic fish and chips! Better than those imposters !

I’m not gonna lie, the fish and chips at ABOVEGROUND changed my life!! The fish is crisply battered to golden brown perfection. The crunch against the moist fall a part cod was truly amazing. The chips were fresh, with a crunchy exterior and flavorful in every bite. The accompanying sauces were the perfect ribbon to tie this altogether. Whenever I’m in DC this will be a forever must-stop for meeeee

Aboveground is out of this world!

Hands down, the best British food I've ever had! Every single dish is a perfect 10/10—flawless in flavor and execution. Make sure to try the Chicken Leek Pie and the Chips!

And the chef? An absolute rock star! His talent shines in every single dish, and he’s genuinely the nicest person.

If you're in DC, you HAVE to head to Aboveground. I'm already craving my next visit!

So went to Gordon Ramsey craving simple British style fish & chips and ate it fresh and was so so dissappinted not even just bland but actually bad! I should have just went to AboveGround! To be fair I hadn't heard the reputation of this place yet. I am not even done eating and I had to come review this place. CLASSIC ! The portion size is huge so don't let the price tag fool you! I can share this order of fish & chips... the best I've had in a very long time and definitely the best in the DC AREA for classic British fish & chips. I even got this as take out and it held up all the way home 👏🏼👏🏼 WELL DONE ! 10/10

This review comes from a place of love. As a Brit living in America finding good fish and chips is difficult. The pros are the pieces of fish are a decent size and crispy. Cons are the price(quite expensive), the chips are more like wedges and very salty, the fish batter was salty and lastly the brown sauce was not HP but they do have it available to purchase.

Love Above Ground! We have to order multiple things to share because I want all the tastes. Our favs; the fish and chips, shepherd’s pie, mushy peas and sausage roll. I can’t eat leeks but my companions tell me the chicken and leek pie 🥧 is all that. Portions are generous. Pick up some sweet snacks (crunchie bar and fruit pastilles 👍🏼) for the metro or car ride home.
Thanks, Chef Nick for a cool and crunchy taste of the UK 🇬🇧

No pics because I was too busy stuffing my face. Special shout to the curry fish puffs, which I’m pretty sure use salt cod which is near and dear to my heart as a Baltimorean. If you’ve got a hearty British pie craving, this is the spot, full stop. Throw caution to the wind and add an Irn Bru for that true chip shop feeling.
