food is excellent! we order the vegetarian combo, meat sambusa and chickpeas for two and for drink the rosemary drink, DELICIOUS!
Go here please
The staff are spectacular, kind and efficient. The food is wonderful and the vibes are so good people would frequently pop in just to dance for a minute and leave.
The two of us shared the deluxe combo, got extra injera, and finished with a tiramisu. Overall everything came out perfect and the staff basically read our minds on bringing out more. Seriously it couldnt have been a more comforting meal.
The service was warm, welcoming, and put us at ease. We knew from the 4.9 the good was probably going to be excellent - and it was. Aside from the delectable menu the house made honey wine and frankincense Ethiopian coffee were lovely and unique to this wonderful restaurant. The atmosphere was perfect for my eighth grade celebrating their last night in DC together. I recommend every one try this if they want something masterful here that you can’t find at home - upstate NY for us.
With 11 8th graders in tow, we had the most authentic, flavorful meal. The chef came to our table and shared the traditions of her country.
Excellent food. Recommend asking the host what to order. His suggestion was excellent!
My wife and I dropped in here for an early dinner. We were the first people in the restaurant. The staff is super lovely, and they make interesting cocktails. The food is simply the best. We have been to several ethiopian restaurants in DC but Abuare is so much better than any other restaurant. In addition to the awaze hot sauce (berberi), the also serve a super spicy Dataa hot sauce (yumm). We ordered a Veg combo and a beetroot main course. Both were amazing. Will go again
If you’ve never tried Ethiopian food before, you’ll still enjoy it. The flavors were rich and unique, and the whole experience was fun and different. Would definitely recommend giving it a try!
This is the best Ethiopian food I have ever had. We ordered the vegetarian combo and an order of beets. Every dish was just the full aromatic Ethiopian experience. We asked for hot sauce and they brought us two. The house special hot sauce “dada” was an amazing ginger and pepper combination. The service was happy and attentive. We loved it here.
Great good and service. Recommended.

It was absolutely delicious! I had Lamb Tibs and Ethiopian Spiced Tea and Baklava. It was on point. Well worth the half mile walk from my hotel.

Amazing food and great service, too. Appears to be family run and the flavors from vegetarian to meat were top notch. A must stop in DC for Ethiopian cuisine

Wow wow. I grew up eating foal (fava beans) but I never had like Abuare’s. The customer service was amazing, Dani took good care of us like we are the only ones at the restaurant that is pretty good. The restaurant is very Cousy and chill place to eat. They do have pretty decent mini bar. Got lucky to have meet the Owner Max, funny guy humble as well. Let’s go back the food aspect. Scrambled eggs with onions, jalapeños and tomato’s, called egg silsi. My brother had a smoothie with Avocado, mango and banana. This is my brunch spot from now on. Will definitely worth of trying it.

We happened upon Abuare by chance- and we are so glad we did! The dining room had an inviting, yet authentic atmosphere. The fragrance of burning incense and cooking food danced together to excite the appetite. When the food came, it was well plated, and presented in a really engaging fashion. We had the Egg Silsi and Spicy Beef TIBS, as shown in the photo. It was transcendent. Nibret, the owner was so kind and welcoming. This spot was an instant favorite, and we will be returning- Enjoy!
