We had a half hour to kill while we waited to meet friends for dinner at a place around the corner, so we dropped in at the Alero Lounge to get Margaritas in their outdoor tented area. The place was pleasant and our cheerful waiter was friendly and prompt. But our house Margaritas with salt had no salt and were a bit disappointing. Still, inexpensive fast, comfortable, and quiet....that's nothing to sneeze at.

I loved this place so much I don’t know why it’s ranked as low as it is. It’s DC so it’s not $3 tacos or whatever but it is still cheap for DC and they treated me and my group of 8 so well on my birthday

Awesome place!!! The food was fantastic and reasonably priced for U street in DC ($15-25) for very delicious and filling entrees. I had the tacos Al pastor and my friend had the chicken burrito, both well seasoned and delicious. We got pitchers which were $50-$60 and had 6 drinks in each. We got the margarita and sangria pitchers which were soooo good. We also asked the server if they sang happy birthday because it was my boyfriend’s birthday and they pulled out all the stops. They came out playing 4 different drums, placed a sombrero on his head, sang happy birthday and gave us a free desert. So fun and delicious! Would highly recommend!

Mexican is my FAVORITE food! This restaurant left much to be desired. The service is great! The servers were attentive and pleasant. The food was mediocre. And I’m still trying to figure out why a salad, 2 “HAPPY HOUR” drinks, nachos and 2 taquitos came to $110!
I’ve been to upscale Mexican spots to local Mom and Pop stores in major (and not so major) cities across the country and for these prices, I expected WAY more in terms of flavor and portions. I guess they have to pay the expensive rent somehow, but this was just so…mediocre.
Food is absolutely not crazy. My stomach hurts, I don't know if it's this place but anyway. 18% of the tip is already added to the bill. What a scam... What if I want to lower that because of bad service ? I can't... They guess that it's always good service for us. Never be back here in my life.

Alero on U got big fans as soon as we walked in. I have dined here in both big and small parties, on packed days and during slower periods, and the amazing customer service never falters. Staff, including management, bring an inviting and energizing vibe to the space and are super helpful if you're undecided in what to get for food or drinks. The chips and the margs (doesn't matter the flavor or if frozen or on the rocks) are to die for! You can't go wrong with the rest of the menu either. A great choice if you're catching up with friends, trying to catch the game, or want to pregame before going out for the night.

Happy hour drink specials are great! I wish they had one for the food as well. Frozen margaritas have the perfect mix of alcohol. I had the nachos and quesadillas. The meat was seasoned to perfection. The only thing was that it took a while for someone to take our order.
