Had dinner. The octopus appetizer shared for two eas delicious. The main courses were a bit of a disappointment after the fine start. I had the crab sandwich. it was dry and frankly have had better ones at the Baltimore ball park. We also ordered the steak sandwich. It was enormous, too much to make much of a dent in. Nothing special about the service. The decor was a little dilapidated. Maybe that was a desired feature, but didn't work for me. Skipped dessert.

Food and service on point. Enjoyed the chicken and waffles. The hot honey butter should come with a warning to proceed cautiously. It was one of those delicious but punishing experiences. I would order it again but slather less of the butter on next time. The flavor was great with the cheddar chive waffle. The only reason I took a star on atmosphere was because of how close the tables are together. Found it difficult for conversation when the neighboring table was SO close. All in all a great experience though. Next time we will opt for a corner table as to only have one neighboring table.

I was yearning for chicken pot pie and this hit the spot. Nice little kale/greens salad, too.
Lovely server.

Agree with other comments that the 5% service charge was an unpleasant surprise. If it's on the menu it's not obvious.

While not a large amount of money, I'm incredibly turned off by the 5% service fee I saw on my receipt. This isn't disclosed anywhere. Either raise your menu prices or explain the fee clearly on your menu. Why deceive people?

Refreshing and comfortable seating among green plants in a greenhouse attached to a bookstore.

Service was really slow and unmotivated. It took ten minutes to take our order and then another 25 min for food to be ready. The place was only a third full during lunchtime. Really disappointing.

This is a bookstore? The food was absolutely amazing. We got the Brussel sprouts, Crab Soup, salmon tartine and a Pear and Prejudice for a cocktail. We will 100% be back and back .... our server was also the bartender We think her name was Jessica and she was on point. Fast professional knowledgeable. We had a great time. See you next time!

UPDATE >>> Next day
Server Wendy.

Heading out of town and trying to figure out where to eat before we head back. 2nd verse same as the first. We found the Fellowship of a this Thing turned us Two Towards Returning to this King of a literary and Gastronomically excellent place, for now we go On the Road, but much like The Call of The Wild , we will find our way back.

Dont waste your time or your calories. One of the most disappointing.meals in a long time. Pork sandwich was made with dry flavorless shreds, with no flavor. Sandwich Rolls were dry and stale. Fries were cold and greasy. Carrot cake was huge, enough for three, but flavorless. Coffee is great. But dinner for two one glass of wine each costing $140 with mediocre service is out of reach.

I don’t like giving 5 stars. I’m struggling to find something to complain about here. Friendly, its packed but doesn’t feel packed, no one rushing you. Kramer Breakfast came out in like 5 minutes, I was like well they just threw that together. Ate myself into a food coma. Good mix of music. Will have to complain somewhere else.

I’m a local, and as a local who has been lured in so many times by how convenient it is, I feel like I have an obligation to let you know how bad the food is here. I’ve lived about 3 blocks from this place for about 12 years. It’s definitely a tourist trap that survives because it’s on a very busy strip in a beautiful neighborhood and it’s right next to the Dupont Metro stop, which is one of the most frequented by tourists. Please come for the beautiful bookstore (I buy all my books there) but I recommend you DO NOT stay for the restaurant. The food comes out fast (I’ve had everything from salmon to pasta to breakfast) because it’s frozen and defrosted in a fryer or oven. I came here for lunch today because it was raining and other places had no seating. I thought maybe a simple burger couldn’t be hard to mess up. The burger came out cold, very clearly because the meat was taken out of a freezer just minutes ago. It was also slathered with thousand island dressing. Same story with the fries: cold and sad. I’ve come here so many times over the years thinking I must just be getting the bad stuff on the menu, and I’ll give it another shot. I went through a stretch of time when I would go here on dates for dessert, thinking it’s at least worth it for the atmosphere. The desserts taste like Safeway cakes that have been in a refrigerator for a week. Trust me when I say this is NOT the place to go for food; it’s purely atmosphere. I recommend you check out the bookstore but avoid this nasty restaurant at all costs.
