If we could give 1/2 stars this would be 4.5. Above all, we loved the atmosphere and the storied backdrop. Art work on the walls was excellent. We ordered the short rib bites and rice which was tasty and better than your average bar snacks. Kudos to the cocktails and the construction of them. The Jabberwocky was spot on with the mezcal. Prices were pretty comparable for D.C. Servers and bartenders were exceptionally friendly and helpful assisting with the overall experience.

Very cozy, hidden bar with a mellow atmosphere. Unique and flavorful drinks themed around the current allegory. Excellent non-alcoholic drinks as well. The short rib tater tots were a group favorite. Definitely would like to go back!

This place used to be a high class speakeasy now its a wanna be club with terrible drinks. I'm not sure what changed but this place used to be really good and now it's terrible. Don't waste your time if you want any decent drinks.

Really fun little speakeasy inside the hotel

I love coming to Allegory! The vibes are always so fun and the menu a delight. The staff are always attentive and great at suggesting drink options. I only knock one star off for the food because the portions are small for the price (ex: $16 for 5 tots); however, if you're not budgeting, everything I've eaten there is delicious.

My only complaint is that the food portions are small and expensive. The drinks and service were wonderful!

This used to be one of my favorite places to take people in DC. The theme was Alice in the Wonderland. Everything was whimsical. The most recent rebrand is very dystopian and weird and dark. None of the drinks are fun and whimsical anymore. Big sad.

Very rude front desk service, atmosphere and drinks are very basic. Nothing special comparing to prices. Not treating clients well enough. Don’t recommend

Really enjoyed finishing my evening here. Great service at the bar, with enough personality and conversation to make it interesting. I like bartenders with opinions and stories, and they delivered without being intrusive to the atmosphere. Interesting drinks off their amazing storybook menu - definitely try something new instead of ordering your normal margarita or martini here. Taste bud exploration, so worth it.

I really wanted to like this place and got here right at 5pm to ensure we got a spot at this “no reservations” bar. From the start, I could tell the staff culture here was off. The hostess checking IDs at the door seemed pissed and upset to be at work. The 4-5 bartenders were all just chilling talking to each other rather than the patrons at the bar or in the booths. And the storybook menu, while an attempt to be creative, is just a disjointed mess and seemingly random mixture of ingredients, zero ABV cocktails, and no real through line / theme. Typically I love a good thematic menu (I.e what silver Lyan does, or death & co, etc) but no one could understand this one and the drinks were not well executed enough to make up for it. We all had one cocktail - which weren’t bad - and a small appetizer - then bounced. I would truly recommend going to any of the other well respected cocktail bars in DC over Allegory, such as OKBP, Silver Lyan, Death & Co, L’annex, Copy Cat Co, or Providencia where you will at least feel like you’ve been welcomed into an intentional space rather than an inconvenient guest within a “vibey” yet unengaging space.
