I truly enjoyed my birthday celebration from the moment I walked in. The atmosphere was welcoming, and everything felt special. I especially want to thank Andy for taking such great care of us during our visit. He was incredibly kind, attentive, and made the experience even more memorable. I truly appreciate the outstanding service!

It’s my first time experiencing the unlimited menu and I’m very happy with the wide selection of food. We did experience a bit of slow service and it seems they have limited indoor seating.

This review is a little overdue since the last time I ate there was a few months back. I just had two friends eat there and their assesment was about the same as mine so I felt the need to put in my two cents even if it's after the fact.
When Ambar first opened it was hands down imo the best restaurant in D.C. The food was nothing like we've seen in D.C. before and the service was impeccable and I truly mean that about the service. Everyone had the highest sense of etiquette and service was very European in standards. The managers all seemed to be European. I received better service there the first few years they were opened then ANYWHERE in D.C. Better then more expensive restaurants like Fiola, Cafe Milano, Charlie Palmers etc etc. Better then newer concepts like Moon Rabbit, Causa or Acqua Bisstecca. Truly the best. Servers were always on point. Anticipated every need, super polite and well mannered. They were all well groomed and obviously had pride in what they did. EVERY time I dined there whether alone or in a group a manager would come over and see how I or we was were doing. One night I came very casually dressed, I almost didn't go in. I sat at the bar and even though I was underdressed and dining solo I was doted on by the bartender and server that delivered my food. It wasnt a food runner it was a server who was helping out the bartender and food runner but that server didnt leave till she knew I had everything I needed and was happy.
When I ate there back in Oct. the food was still great but their service and hiring for server standards have fallen off a cliff. It's been like this the past couple years at least. Multiple staff members will ignore you and avoid eye contact. Some of the staff is outright rude and are dysfunctional at their jobs. It was shocking how far down service standards have fallen and apparently the work culture. There's no way any of the managers that worked there when I was a regular are still there. They had too much pride in what they were doing and with the jobs their staff was doing. Apparently noone cares anymore.
My two friends that ate there had the same assessment I have even though we ate there months apart.
They will not stay open like this and it doesn't seem like they have the stomach to return standards to what they used to be so I belive their days are numbered.
It used to be so much better then their Clarendon location but since Covid that location has gotten better while the original location should just close now.
Avoid the D.C. location and make the trip to their Clarendon spot. It's worth the extra commute.
