By far the best café in D.C. Coffee with a soul. Kind staff - all of them. Delicious coffee. And a cool atmosphere that makes my soul dance. Jazz music, French music, classic guitar rock playing on the speaker, and that classic Parisian café vibe - not gentrified or highbrow. No. Cozy, tasty, relaxing, and affordable. What a café should be! Stay awesome, Café Au Lait :)
Wonderful little creperie for lunch and breakfast, we went out of the way from our hotel because I was looking for a place with good tea and crepes in a cosy spot. It's difficult to find good crepes without going to a very fancy place and for me personally it can be hard to find places that have good tea, it's hit or miss. Very very friendly owner, definitely a place to return to for breakfast and brunch, or just to sit around drinking and doing some work.
I was surprised by how inexpensive the crepes were too, coming from Richmond the prices were actually lower. Crepes had really good mushrooms and cheese, quite packed and portions were larger than needed to fill you, so you definitely won't go hungry. Omelette was particularly good: fluffy, light & tender.
5 stars for Au Lait Cafe because it was exactly what we were looking for in a quaint cafe. I went with the Au Lait breakfast with French toast and pork bacon. It was the perfect portion where it didn't leave you feeling ready for a nap, but also didn't leave you wanting more food.
For drink had the latte and added vanilla while my gf had the chai latte with added vanilla. Both were great but my gf said the chai was one of the best she's had. There were two people working when we were there and they were very attentive!
Would def recommend this cafe. Next time we will be sure to try the crepes and smoothies which the table behind us kept raving about!
Absolutely loved this café! The French toast was out of this world—perfectly crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and just the right touch of sweetness. And the chai with oat milk? Hands down the best I’ve ever had. Smooth, flavorful, and perfectly spiced. Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and top-notch flavors. Can’t wait to come back!
This is the sweetest place with the best customer service. We would definitely visit again. The owner was extremely friendly and kind.
Overpriced food (14 dollars for a caprese on a single ciabatta) , the loo was in a terrible state and the manager/owner didn’t seem to have a professional attitude towards his female staff. Avoid.
The atmosphere and service were great; however, the food was not the best. My husband and I ordered two omelettes with home fries and they were just okay. The restaurant was super busy so maybe that is why.
First time in DC so I wanted to try some local spots. I originally ordered the crepes, but unfortunately the crepe machine was broken. The staff was so amazing at resolving the issue and replacing my order with the lox bagel. It was AMAZING! The atmosphere was perfect quiet/cozy. There interesting books to read all around as well. 12/10 would definitely recommend.
Came here with my mom while visiting DC and we absolutely loved it! The food was tasty and the vibes were great. Staff were really friendly. So glad we picked this spot

Highly recommend the coffee cake, it’s delicious! I ordered an iced latte as well and was happy with it, it has more of a nutty flavour ?

We ate a few times at this cozy breakfast place near Dupont Circle. The food was delicious, the coffee was amazing, and the people who were working there during our visits were so friendly. Check it out!

This is my all-time favorite neighborhood cafe. The owners remember everyone who comes in and greet them warmly. The coffee is excellent, the atmosphere is warm and cozy, the food options are perfect for breakfast and lunch, and the food itself is made fresh and tastes delicious. I love having this place in my neighborhood!
