Axum Ethiopian Restaurant

Food was good and the waitress was very nice. But it took almost an hour to arrive (with some of my fried fish room temperature), she forgot our drinks, and she charged my card on the wrong items. We were the only table.

Music was also blaring and the cloud of incense was very overwhelming — stung our eyes. But a plentiful portion of food, and again, the waitress was super nice and smiley.

Axum Restaurant offers the best service in town—friendly staff, fast service, and a warm atmosphere. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an authentic and welcoming dining experience!

The food and service was excellent. The server helped us out with ordering our food so we didn't over order. Her suggestions were spot on. At the end of the meal, coffee was freshly roasted and served piping hot
It was a wonderful treat after indulging in such delicious food.

Great food! Walked in & Shewit & Yordanos were very welcoming. They allowed me to substitute the injera bread with rice on one order. They allowed me to choose which meats I have on my Axum Platter rather than forcing me to have the menu options. The food was excellent! Fresh, made to order, tasty. Not too spicy and they gave me extra spicy sauce in containers on the side. They also offered me a complimentary cup of traditionally brewed coffee while waiting for my food. Definitely coming back because it’s refreshing to get that kind of service coupled with food that does not disappointment. Good job, Axum Restaurant.

Vegetarian options: Ethiopians forego meat and dairy during their lent periods. Thus, all the veg options are actually vegan.

Delicious food late at night. The service was great. We got the Axum special, more than enough food for two people. And kettle corn for dessert.

Amazing food, service, and great prices for DC! Idk what time their kitchen closes, but I walked in at 11pm on a Thursday and they were happy to serve me. They were super attentive and gave me everything I asked for. I will definitely be back!

Love this little place. Owner and server were so kind and nice. We live in NJ from Peru and Ukraine. They explain all food , nice experience. Price not bad at all. Loved the Ethiopian beer.

Axum has the most delicious Ethiopian food. They serve good sized portions and the staff are very attentive. There are lots of Ethiopian restaurants in DC. Axum is the best.

We wanted to experience authentic Ethiopian cuisine. This restaurant did not disappoint! We were welcomed with open arms and the gentleman was very nice and helpful in helping us decide what to order.We tried the axum special which was steak (well done) and the fish dish. They served both our meals on the same plate which was a nice experience to share and eat together. Of course this was full experience, eating with our hands. Nice!!We will definitely visit again!
