Raw pizza. Under-proofed bread. (Sensing a theme). None of the fundamentals were right. And truly had the highest hopes for this place, and unfortunately it disappointed in quality. How can you charge $25 for a nine inch pie?

Bar del Monte is the kind of place that nails it with quality food and service, no glitz or glam needed. If you're more about great flavors than oversized American portions, this spot is for you. It’s the kind of place you could easily imagine in Italy. The pizzas are a solid 10/10, and the drinks are just as impressive. If you’re looking for a no-fuss, authentic dining experience with excellent food, this is definitely the place to be.

Ok so it’s not cheap but what is in DC? I love this place. I ate there two consecutive evenings in October. The friendly helpful servers the gorgeous thin crusted pizzas the radicchio salad, the (yes pricey) but most interesting wine list. No reservations but they always try to find space for you. In summary, a joy.

Lost our name on list after waiting 90 minutes.

We came to Del Monte last night around 7 PM and were told the wait for a table for 2 would be about 40–50 minutes, which we completely understood. We ordered drinks and waited patiently on the back patio. After an hour and a half had gone by, my husband walked up to check on our table — only to notice two open tables inside. When he asked the host about our spot, she informed him that they had “lost our name in the system.”

I went up to the front as well, and the hostess — a young woman with long reddish-blonde hair — was very unapologetic and defensive. She shrugged and said it was a “human error” and that they were training new staff, as if that excused losing our place after 90 minutes. What made it worse was that she didn’t offer to seat us right away at one of the open tables, but instead offered to “add us back to the waiting list.” There were already multiple parties behind us by then, so we essentially would’ve had to start over.

We tried to remedy the situation offline by asking the hostess if the restaurant would get in touch with us to make this right, but instead of taking my information, she handed me the restaurant’s general email address. The whole experience felt dismissive and careless.

It’s a shame, because we’ve eaten here before and enjoyed the food, but after this experience, we won’t be back. Judging by other recent reviews mentioning similar seating issues, it seems like Del Monte is going downhill. Hopefully management addresses this, because right now the service and attitude are not up to par for a place with this price point.

Loved my visit to Bar del Monte. The space felt chic but relaxed, the service was friendly, and the cocktails were amazing — balanced, creative, and fun. The food was just as good, perfect for sharing and snacking while you linger. It’s the kind of spot you could easily spend the whole evening at without realizing how much time has passed.

Great addition to the neighborhood. Food is all very good, and our waiter was very nice and helpful. Also love the no-tipping policy—the menu prices reflect the full price paid.

My only comment is to dim the lights in the dining room - it was much too bright for our 9pm dinner!

Disclaimer, I am Neapolitan and I came here to try the pizza from this place I heard from some friends. Unfortunately This place is a joke. It is Saturday in dc, traffic inevitably slows people to be on time. They don’t accept reservations. I arrived around 7. I asked for a table for two. There was a table for 4 free. But they said that is for 4. Then they said that a table for 2 would be available in 30 mins. I informed my friend not to be in a rush. The bar sent me a message that the table was ready. But they said since my friends were not with me they couldn’t give the table. And by the way the table for 4 was still empty but then they give it to two people (see picture). It is just ridiculous. And the pizza was a disaster. Margherita was dry because the tomato sauce was non existent, burned, and the mozzarella (that should be fior di latte) was just added in homeopathic doses. Etto and Menomale are better (vetted by a Neapolitan).

Delicious dinner, they have a rotating menu so items are subject to change. It’s funny because this place used to be a car shop and I took my car here years ago haha! Now repurposed into a beautiful restaurant.

We ordered the pasta dish, lamb skewers (delightful), lamb crudo and Russian salad. All were interesting unique and well plated. Pancetta pizza was divine. Service was excellent and attentive. It feels cozy but unique and modern. I really recommend stopping by for a lovely dinner experience.

Outstanding pizza and wow worth the hype! The dough was super thin, crispy and tasty. The lamb sausage pizza was truly one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. Toppings were perfectly balanced and top quality. Even better than 2amys! Laid back atmosphere with very attentive service. A DC gem

Tried coming here twice, once a little before 9 and another time at 8:30, and both times they said they weren’t seating anyone, even though their hours say they close at 10. When I asked, they basically said they close whenever they feel like it. After two wasted trips, I won’t be trying a third time

The food is fantastic! Absolutely love all the anchovy dishes. The service was pretty good. I felt a little rushed. It’s loud. It was a bit distracting to hear every word of a conversation two tables away. I like that they include the tip in the price of the food. Makes everything so easy and seamless. Overall, highly recommend. The food is that good.

This is my favorite Italian restaurant in the DC area, by a mile. The food is delicious and prepared in line with a very Italian culinary sensibility: a few ingredients, of the highest quality. The space is beautiful and light-filled but not at all fussy. The service is excellent. I would say to run not walk, but then you'd be competing with me for seating at this no-reservations gem.
