The messy egg is mandatory. And a side of their butter is the real pro move. You’ll have extra bread and that butter is outrageously good — don’t skip it.

It pains me to write this: especially with the climate of the world now.

I have been coming here for YEARS! Ever since it has opened (and supported Marvelous Market as a kid) but over the last year- service has been rather unpleasant. I let all the side stares and comments (from staff) pass since I truly enjoy this place. Unfortunately today- was the last straw. Mind you- I JUST LEFT.

I went in to buy my normal salad and looked around for a snack or 2 after my run. I made my choice, made way to the line to pay. (I believe the older gentleman behind the counter may have been the owner), with an arm full of things to buy- both registers were busy but the gentleman I guess noticed a friend or regular. As I approached the register and waited- he blatantly ignored me and to assist the guy behind me (again I have arms full of things to buy). He laughed and giggled with the guy, told him his things were already paid for but the customer said he didn’t pay yet and assisted on paying. The older gentleman behind the register kept saying “I have to treat you to something” and gave him everything for free. WHILE I STill WAITED because the other register still had the guest buying things.

The young women that finally was able to me was very polite and quick but as this was happening- he continued to help the other ppl but again decided to skip over me. I hate to bring this up but I’m not sure if it’s because of the way I was dressed, due to head covering (I’m - male Muslim) or because of race but this has been happening for quite some time now for me here. I will no longer shop here and I’m sure it won’t make a difference but sir- please learn to treat EVERYONE the same and not just the ppl that look like you.

This high quality European style bakery was right next door to our hotel, so we got breakfast there 3 days in a row. Buttermilk biscuits were great, as was the avocado veggie bagel, fruity bran muffin, yogurt granola parfait, and tea lattes. Tons of interesting canned foods on shelves both local and nice Euro imports, cheeses, and takeaway meals. A few seats family style inside, and more cafe tables outside. Surprised they only have one odd type of egg - not fried, just near-liquid scramble.

This is almost certainly the best French bakery in Washington, DC. It would likely be the best in all cities in the eastern US except possibly NYC. It's mainly a takeout place.
Besides the baked goods, sandwiches, and hot drinks, there's also a selection of gourmet groceries, including booze.

We went to Furst on Connecticut Avenue after trying their handiwork at the Phillips Collection. This review is about their bread and butter (the bread itself). We bought a sour dough loaf, a simple sandwich on a baguette and some other things. The bread in both cases had the perfect combination of crunchy crust and chewy texture inside. It is hard to find bread bakeries like this that seem to really focus on these basics, many choosing instead to follow the latest fads. I am surprised that The NY Times overlooked this place in their bakery reviews (probably shouldn't be). I can't wait to go back and get more.

15 dollar sandwich.

Didn't appreciate the attitude. They have good bread, but definitely not worth the price for a sandwich made hours ago and without cornichons. In France they might have attitude but at least take pride in serving fresh food properly. There are better baguettes in the District.

In all honesty, the chocolate cookies are ok. What makes this reviews five stars is the almond croissant. It was absolutely phenomenal. The croissant was flaky and buttery, and there was a plenty of almond frangipane inside. Also, the Cookie Roberts (shortbread with pecans) is very, very good. A lot of other good-looking baked goods and breads as well. We’ve also enjoyed pies from there before, and they were very good (got blueberry and peach). Great location and friendly service to go with their gourmet market, and you’ve got yourself a neighborhood favorite.

The best bakery in the Washington, DC area. When you need your Paris Croissant fix or best Baguette without getting on a plane stop by anytime and dip it in a good cup of coffee and dream away. So much more to indulge-Come yummy hungry

A restaurant specializing in cold food? Over priced and rude staff. I got a sandwich (which was not what I ordered) a cookie (tiny), a tea (which was good) and 2 bottles of water for 31 dollars.. absolutely ridiculous.
