Awful vegetarian fajitas

the food is not good, but I guess it’s an institution in the area

If you’re looking for a white version of Mexican food this is your place. The food was swimming in oil, the nachos had no flavor, and the vegetarian fajitas had no taste. Definitely not a place I would venture to eat n DC again.

Good food and fun atmosphere! I wouldn't say it's the best Mexican food I've ever had, but it's tasty.

Great food quality, prices are reasonable according to the area and life cost.
Service great and simple as I like.
The only recommendation would be about the type.of chairs outside which are weak, uncomfortable and dangerous when someone sits.

Been a customer for decades. Every time I go to DC I try to get there.

Been coming here and loving it for over 15 year, but recently the quality of food has significantly dropped (or maybe it was just this night).

I like that they're not too hip and not watered down either. I didn't think it was possible to find this style of Mexican food in DC because everybody's so hip! Ha. Next time I might try the enchiladas. I had a brunch item that was really good, and my son loved his dairy-free chicken taco and rice and beans. Excellent sopapillas!
Huge place too! Lots of room inside and out.

Good tortilla soup, a meal in itself with chicken and avocado. Too many stairs in the restaurant.

Table seating wait time was satisfactory and the staff were very attentive and helpful on showing the menu and deal offerings for the day.
In general, the Mexican food was flavorful but not 100% representative of authentic foods that could be offered by food trucks or businesses to the East of this restaurant. Without embargo, the portions were great, there was a wide selection of drinks and the scenery was impeccable.
For the area around the Cathedral, I would recommend Cactus Cantina as a safe Latino option for when you explore the plentiful neighborhoods and businesses that are accessible by Metrobus and walking.

We've been going to this restaurant for 30+ years. Consistently good every time? Definitely our go-to tex mex place for celebrations, big and small, or just for a good meal. Extremely family friendly. I hope this restaurant is still here in 30 years from today. Thank you!!!

Food was great, environment was family friendly, but our server, terrible. She acted as if she had something better to do or maybe wanted to attend other tables and not ours? Who knows but because of our experience with her, I'm less likely to return.
