I forgot how good real German food tastes. The wurst, the sauerkraut, nom nom nom. The beer! The service! Thank you so much.

It's always difficult to get gnocchi right, but their sweet potato gnocchi was absolutely perfect and one of the best I've had. Also tried the mushroom soup, which was a smaller portion but delicious. The bread pudding was a bit too sweet (because of the apple sauce) and crispy for my liking, but not bad either.
And absolute gem of a restaurant! It is easy to see why this has been a neighborhood favorite for so many years; the service, food, and atmosphere were wonderful. On a cold winter night, it felt cozy and warm, and I was there for a birthday dinner with a group of friends. Some ordered from the restaurant week menu, some ordered from the standard menu, and all of us were more than happy with the dishes we received (literally everything on the menu was amazing). The cocktails, beer, and wine offered were also excellent, and service was friendly and attentive. I will absolutely be going back. A great experience all around!

Loved my experience! I had never been and went for a double date on Saturday. It was a chilly evening so all of their meals were perfect. My boyfriend had the special, which I think was the Lamb. I had the short ribs. We all shared the brie and then the pretzel appetizers. The beer cheese that came with the pretzels was the best beer cheese I've ever had. I'm not a mustard fan, but my entire table enjoyed all of the mustards that came with the pretzels as well. I can't believe I didn't take any photos of the food or drinks, but my boyfriend and friend are both avid beer drinkers and thought their selections were great. Looking forward to going back!

As always, service and ambience were excellent. The Wiener schnitzel was as great as always — the exact opposite of the typical misconception of German food as heavy. The other dish was less than extraordinary, but it must be said that that diner was ordering something a little outside her usual lane. The host/co-owner noticed that it was not eaten and came to the table to discuss why. She then comped the meal, which was more than fair; I told her that we would make it up by dining there again soon.
We have made it a tradition to do Christmas dinner at Cafe Berlin for their goose dinner. It's always wonderful -- and the staff are so gracious and demonstrate the holiday spirit.
The food was good but not outstanding.?we loved the table in a Mitch and very private. We could talk and hear each other. The service was great. The goose a bit dry but overall a little belt experience
Like the atmosphere but portion is really small. Ordered sauerbraten but there is only one small piece of meat. Staff are nice but slow.

Delicious and perfect for a fancy dinner or date night. The cocktails were delicious. We have had consistently good, special food for decades. Try the venison or boar. Any of the sausages are going to be good. And the bartenders are super friendly. They made my birthday dinner very special.

Every time we visit Cafe Berlin is a good time. The establishment, the service, and the atmosphere are just as incredible as the food.

I went with my wife and in-laws for thanksgiving and the food was fantastic. I really enjoyed the concept of having both the traditional thanksgiving spread options and traditional german ones. The venison in the carpachio was excellent but I think the best thing was the wild boar ragout. The meat was rich and tender and paired well with the creamy mushroom sauce. Admittedly I do think that the deserts were nothing special and that the dining area smelled slightly off and was perhaps a bit dingy.

Whether it be for a special occasion, holiday (we just had Thanksgiving dinner there), quick weeknight happy hour, or date night - Cafe Berlin always goes above and beyond with their food, beverage selections, and service. Happy to see a family owned (and operated!) business thriving after 40 years in the game on Capitol Hill!
Delicious food, peaceful ambiance. We ate in the small dining room. Would eat on porch in warmer weather. Enjoyable authentic German food.
