I've had food from Capo before at another location and it was great. This location ain't it. They messed up my order and it was really slow. The cheesesteak was so bland, it barely tasted like anything. Seems to be a pattern at this location based off the other reviews. $18 for a small sandwich.

Subs are the best. But I ordered a sandwich thru the website and I got an error, then I tried to do it again, and in the end I have THREE transactions on my bank account for something I never received (I was trying to order before closing). When I got to the restaurant 5 minutes before closing, they said they aren’t taking any orders. Also, right after my transactions didn’t go through, I called them and asked about it, they said they don’t have anything. I asked if I can order through the phone, they said no (I mean, I understand why, but the fact that their website sucks and they didn’t want to do a sub 5 min before closing pissed me off (I was trying to order a cold sub, not a hot one, which means they would not have to clean all grills and stoves again))

A Capitol Lunch: Dining Like a Commander-in-Cheese at Capo Deli
CAPO DELI in the Western Market, Washington, D.C., was a bit of a trek for us—but we decided to Lincoln up and go for it. Located a 20-minute walk west of the White House along Pennsylvania Ave., we reluctantly made the journey as we weren’t really hungry after a filling but somewhat disappointing breakfast earlier (Sun, May 25, 2025).
The sun was out and we’d just had an Eisenhower-ing good time watching the “Rolling to Remember” motorcycle parade for Memorial Day Weekend. The deli was located inside the Western Market, which appeared to be an old building Jeffersoned into a modern and bright food court, boasting a wide range of options.
We ordered:
🥪 Turkey & Beef Sub (6 inches) = $13.99 🥪 Italian Beef Sub (6 inches) = $13.99 😢 Tax = $2.80 💰 Total = $30.78
We enjoyed them later in the afternoon sunshine on seats next to the National World War I Memorial, close to the Treasury Building. It was Monroe-mentally nice to sit and relax with the tasty food, and we couldn’t quite believe the subs were only 6 inches—they were Roosevelt-sized!
The subs were heavy and packed full of meaty fillings and fresh vegetables. The Italian beef sub was served warm and reminded us of a pizza, with its garlicky flavor. The bread was crunchy and not too thick.
We’re pleased we made the detour to Capo Deli—no Nixon regrets here—and our subsequent 8-mile walk around D.C. certainly helped to burn off those Mount Rushmore-worthy subs!

Food delivered with literally no sauce/dressing. Just dry ingredients on stale bread.
Solid Italian and roast pork grinders. Italian had ample oil and vinegar. Service was great. I see lots of negative reviews from years back, so things must have improved.
Ordered the chicken fontina. Decent sandwich, but a little pricey at 16.99 plus tax. Business is located inside a food hall.
Gave us the wrong order and then tried to tell us we ordered wrong and refused to remake (my friend is a vegetarian who ordered an eggplant parm sub and they gave us a meatball sub and gave my other friends shredded instead of breaded chicken). Worst customer service experience I've had in a long time.
A few reasons I give Capo Deli two stars: 1. Bad costumer service — it takes for ever to get your order. 2. Sandwiches and food are ridiculously expensive…get your money worth somewhere else. 3. Discriminatory and offensive remarks about minorities from the store or shift supervisor. I won’t patronize businesses like Capo Deli in my life
Rude employees. Low quality food and expensive. $15 for two slices of cheese, lettuce, and bread.

Paid $17 for a cheesesteak and waited so long for my order and got the skimpiest cheesesteak i’ve ever had. Never going to this place again. Flavor is like 7/10 but value for money its a total rip off.

This has to be the WORST meal I’ve had in a very long time. I went outside into the fire pit of hell to grab lunch. I’ve had Capo Italian Deli via Uber Eats or Door Dash before so I was ready to get an awesome sandwich. Not so fast, I went to the 2000 Pennsylvania Avenue, Western Market location. The staff was “terrible.” Maybe it was the heat outside that contributed to the terrible customer service experience that I received. While the person may have been polite, she wasn’t the most helpful. The sandwich I ordered was a Chicken Cheesesteak sub, and it was awful. There was NO redeeming quality of this food, and I threw 98% of it into the trash. The sandwich wasn’t made with care or quality. Please see the attached pictures of the sandwich. The only thing I enjoyed about my lunch was the plain Lays potato chips. I normally tell people to run not walk to a restaurant, but with this experience I’m telling you to run AWAY from this place. Will not be coming back, EVER!

Nice staff. The chicken parm sandwich tasted bland and the chicken was tough/dry. I threw it out. Try something else, I guess?
