I recently took my team to Chai Pani for dinner. My wife has been raving about this place since it opened. We did not have a reservation but we were able to get a seat at the bar. They have a great team of hosts/bar tenders. I had a great experience. We started with the cheese uttapam and sweet potato. The sweet potato dish was on the saltier side. Once we got the lamb dish I mixed the rice, lamb and sweet potato together and it was perfect. The lamb was a bit under seasoned so I balanced it out. The KFC sandwich definitely stole the show. I look forward to going back.

We enjoyed a delicious, quick dinner at Chai Pani. Loved the atmosphere and service. I typically don't like okra, but their okra was an addictive treat. And each of us enjoyed our meals. We'll definitely visit again!

Indian street food with a modern twist. Not a long menu but filled with choicest dishes. All are shareable. Festive Indian atmosphere. Great upbeat soundtrack. Happy and helpful staff. Nice merch for sale.

had an amazing experience at Chai Pani in Union Market. From the moment I arrived, Kia at the hostess desk set the tone with her warm energy and welcoming vibe. She was so helpful and genuinely kind. At the bar, Chris was just as fantastic, super attentive, personable, and spot-on with recommendations.
The food was incredible. We tried the chai and the mango lassi, and both were absolutely delicious with fresh flavors and the perfect balance of sweetness and spice. The whole visit felt thoughtful and memorable.
Chai Pani truly delivered on great service and even better food. I will definitely be back.

I wish I could give Chai Pani 6 stars. I’ve eaten at Michelin Star restaurants in DC that have far less to offer. We’ve been fans for a long time from the Asheville location. Not sure what they’ve done to make it even more incredible but our jaws were on the floor the entire meal.

Their naan taste more like pita bread from a grocery store. I don’t think they have a tandoor to make a traditional Indian naan.

Food - people will rave about the okra but they use way too much salt. The palaak dhal is too watery. The vada pav is the best veg item - hearty portion and an authentic but modern taste.
Service - Our waitress was lovely and attentive. Reception staff: we booked an 8:30p reservation for a birthday and they didn’t seat us til 9p because the guests at our table wouldn’t leave (unclear how hard the manager tried to get them to leave). I was surprised they didn’t comp us a snack or drink while we waited. Nor did they remember we had a birthday in the group when we ordered dessert.
Decor - it’s very well done but I wonder if all the decor is contributing to the high cost of the food. Given the portion sizes, cost is a little high.
I still recommend the place though because it’s adding flare and spice to DC, the waitstaff are excellent, and the interior is beautifully done.

Tried this place after seeing all the hype on social media. When we got there, we had a reservation, but there was a bit of a wait, about 10-15 minutes, before we were seated. The restaurant is designed really nicely, it's like being in an Indian wedding. However, it is a tight space. We had a baby and a stroller, and they tried their best to accommodate us. I did appreciate the manager and host doing that for us. Service was what stood out the best to me. Our server was nice, attentive, and quick with things. We only had to ask once for a missing item and ask for water, which he forgot at the beginning. The food was well done! Weservedd avarietyh of small plates - the kale pakora chaat and theKFCc fried chicken sandwich wereamongf our favorites. I liked that it wasn't super spicy and the flavors were rich and tangy unique. The drinks were okay, didn't find anything too special. I tried the chai pani lager, which was a nice light beer. The spot was pricey for the food we got, but it's DC, so I'm not surprised by that. Overall, would go again for an event or birthday, not just because.

New Indiian street food restaurant is very popular in DC. We went in early before open on Sunday evening and there was a line of about 50 when it opened. It was packed after half an hour. Menu is short but has the most popular options. Service was good except one item came late and they made up by offering free drink refills and another appetizer. Overall fancy place and feels like an Indian marriage hall vibe. The dessert Bhapa doi was too good and i had never had it.
