City Tap House - Penn Quarter is conveniently located and has an enjoyable atmosphere. I was with a party of 4. We made reservations and were promptly seated when we arrived around 8 PM on a Tuesday. The place was full of customers. I did not rate their service as excellent because some of us were annoyed by their ordering process, which is through a QR Code. None of us had dined there before. We all had questions about what to order, like the ingredients in dishes and the waiter's recommendations. One of us was a vegetarian, and some had dietary concerns. That is part of my dining experience, and ordering through a QR code is not satisfactory customer service in my opinion. So before we ordered, we asked someone working there for help. We thoroughly enjoyed our food. We ordered Delhi Chicken Bowl, Crispy Yuca Fries, Sesame-Apple Crunch, City Tap Chop Salad, Black Angus Tap Burger, Elote street corn dip, Charred Brussels Sprouts, Ginger Basil Margarita, and Key Lime Pie.

Excellent service and food on a busy Sunday in DC. City Tap Chop Salad was excellent - crispy shallots were a nice touch!

The food was good but I did not like the self service ordering. I couldn't enjoy my family because I had to take everyone's food and drink order.

We always enjoy visiting City Tap House. The food and service is very good. We were there before a Caps game so it was pretty busy and the volume was elevated. The prices seem a bit high, but for the occasional special event we don't mind paying.

The food we were able to eat was good but service was awful. They use a QR code system which is fine except the one menu they did give us they came by 3 times to get back and so we finally just gave it to them. Then one of the hosts stops at our table and randomly/oddly asks if we have a reservation (which we did) and what our name was. It just felt a bit rude and unnecessary. The appetizers were good. By the time we finally got our meals, they were stone cold and since we were trying to make it to a show, we didn't have time for them to remake the food so we left hungry. All in all a horrible experience.

Food was good, but you had to order through a QR code - which was just awkward with a table of 5 with one person paying. Then the timing varied - with some drinks ordered after others coming out before others that were ordered earlier (beer & wine, so no mixing needed). Then when we went to pay the bill the lowest tip was 18% (besides custom) - even though we never had a waiter, only food runners. Overall, I felt like we paid sit down restaurant prices despite not having a waiter. Would come back if they went to good old fashioned wait staff.

Overall, we really enjoyed this restaurant. The food was excellent and everything came out so quickly! While it was a little strange to order directly on an app rather than with a waiter or waitress it worked efficiently. I think what was best was that you could keep the tab open and just put your orders in directly using the ordering app and the drinks would come to you only a moment later. It was a little louder because of the game day and people cheering but that was part of the experience. We appreciated the happy hour drinks and beverages as well because they truly were a deal unlike some other happy hour options at other restaurants. Would definitely recommend! Our kids are 10 and 13 and it was a good place for them too.

We come here every year after a basketball game. It was busier than usual and service was slow. Otherwise a good experience.

I don't like the scan and pay it leave it for no personalized service at the table if we need anything.

Went before a caps game, made a reservation to ensure getting a table. We had the chicken nachos, burger, and beef dip sandwich. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time and was hot. Nothing outstanding about the flavors, rather run in the mill, and got the job done.

Had dinner here after an event at Capital One Arena. I had selected this restaurant based on it having a Gluten Free menu. I ran into issues with the servers not being fully aware of what sides are or aren't GF, specifically the French fries. The servers stated that the French fries were “absolutely “ GF, but then backtracked by saying they would double check just to be sure. When the server returned, it was confirmed that they are not GF. The server offered a salad. The stools were very uncomfortable. Not a restaurant we would return to.

Great spot before Caps game. I would highly recommend it. Food was great and not too expensive.

Do not even try this place. On 12/20 around 4pm the bartender said she wouldn’t have time to serve us because she was the only one working. There were so many waiters there and only a few tables were full, she just wanted to be cut soon. We were planning simple orders, she lost out on some good holiday money. I was a bartender and I would never turn down an opportunity for more customers. It’s also insane to have one bartender on a college football day when you’re a sports bar.

Good spot to grab something before heading to a game at Capital One Arena (or to just watch the game on tv). Variety of food and drink specials for happy hour. Diverse selection of beers, wine, cocktails, and food to choose from. You order off an online menu, so not much interaction with waitstaff. That said, the staff we did encounter was friendly. Everything we ordered was good, arrived quickly.
