Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Interesting food. Great cocktails menu. We had the hummus appetizer, Lamb and beef and chicken skewer combination. Everything was very good.
The menu has diverse options and we were able to try multiple items. Note - happy hour is only at the bar. Coctails didn't have much alcohol but were unique. Recommend if in Columbia Heights.
Each dish was packed with flavor.

Kookoo in DC is an absolute must try! From the moment we arrived, the owner made us feel incredibly welcome—even though there was a party going on when we showed up. He was very apologetic and generously brought us some wine, which was such a thoughtful touch. The service throughout the night was amazing and attentive.
The food was outstanding. The wings were perfectly cooked and full of flavor, and the lamb literally falls right off the bone — tender, juicy, and delicious. Plus, the cocktails were out of this world, creative and expertly made. All in all, an unforgettable dining experience with incredible food and hospitality. I can’t wait to come back!

An Absolute Gem: Kookoo Restaurant Sets the Standard for Persian Cuisine in DC! If you're searching for the best Persian food in the DC area, look no further than Kookoo—it is truly magnificent. Every single item we ordered was an absolute delight, showcasing authentic flavors and incredible culinary execution. From the moment you step in, the experience is wonderful. The beautiful decor creates a warm, inviting atmosphere, and the service is so friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home. Now for the food! The appetizers are a must-try. The pomegranate sauce chicken wings were a sensational start—a perfect balance of sweet and tangy that left us wanting more. We also thoroughly enjoyed the classic tahdig (crispy rice) and kashk-e bademjan (smoked eggplant dip), which were both prepared to perfection. For the main courses, the excellence continued. The Koobideh (ground meat kebab) and Ghormeh Sabzi (herb stew) were both magnificent. The meat was tender, the spices were layered beautifully, and the flavors were rich and deep. Kookoo is a highly recommended dining experience. Whether you're a long-time fan of Persian cuisine or looking to try it for the first time, this restaurant delivers on every front: incredible food, lovely ambiance, and outstanding service. We can't wait to go back! Highly recommended!

Delicious food— I recommend khoresh fesenjoon and the potato turnovers appetizer. Dimmed lights are ambient but I can still see clearly, music can be heard but doesn't overwhelm conversation. Very attentive wait service, and every time I've been the owner has come by to say hello. This time he offered us a sample of his favorite dish! Definitely one of my top 5 favorite sit-down restaurants in the DMV.
Highly recommend this Persian restaurant. Amazing food and excellent customer service.
We tried the Lamb Shank, Bakhtiari Kabob, Kookoo Sabzi, Samosa, Tahdig, and Kashke bademjoon and all dishes were absolutely fantastic and tasted homemade. The owner is very sweet and made sure we were happy with the food and the quality of the service
