All 3 courses were amazing. Best French onion soup I’ve ever had. Steak frites was cooked perfectly. I would stab someone if they took my sticky toffee pudding.

Delicious French bistro. Very solid 2 or 3 course prix fix menus. The fries are amazing. The profiteroles are scrumptious.

Had an amazing dinner with someone. Food was DELICIOUS. I think better than Lutece, Le Dip, and Pastis. We both ordered the 3 courses. We enjoyed every meal. Pear dessert, Branzino, Beef Bourgunon, creme brulee, and beef tartare are standouts. Carlos took care of us very well, I love his vibe, very attentive

This is my absolutely favorite brunch spot! The food is consistently excellent and really authentic. Chef Cedric makes hands down the BEST quiche I’ve ever had! We have also had dinners for birthday celebrations and every dish has been outstanding. The servers are exceptional and professional. The whole team seems to be enjoying themselves! I cannot recommend more highly!

Best french restaurant, friendly atmosphere, service is impeccable, the chef came to check on us while we were raving on the food. Being french, I closed my eyes and I felt right back in France. The food is delicious, the ingredients top quality, the desserts would put some reknown pastry places to shame. Foie gras, mussels, lardons, all is cooked up perfection. Les profiteroles will make you fall head over heels, enjoying each bite of pure heaven.
Thank you for such delicious food!

Never go to a longed-for restaurant during restaurant week. Service was the big issue. Our server, a pleasant, fun guy, was simply swamped, and our meal played out like a slow-mo movie. LONG gaps between courses. A table of eight finished before our table of three despite arriving about 15 minutes after us. Food was lovely, as I expected, but we had to send a very rare steak back after a medium order from my daughter. Wife was disappointed by her coq au vin spin. They spent time trying to make a Vesper cocktail, which I appreciated, only to miss (used red Lillet instead of white). Just got the feeling they were sqeezing us in and doing only what was necessary when they got around to it. My lovely family made the best of it, but shouldn’t have had to!

While we found our appetizers and entrees uninspired, dessert was a revelation and the entire experience was buffered by superb service and a warm atmosphere.

I started with the French onion soup and sadly it fell into a pattern of lackluster versions of this dish in the DC area. It simply lacked flavor. My friend's burrata was also quite middling.

My main dish was their popular fried coq au vin (boneless chicken thigh fried and glassed in a coq au vin sauce, crushed potato, vegetables) and it was marginally better, aided by a little salt but still pretty forgettable. My friend seemed to enjoy the gnocchi (carrot and ginger purée, asparagus, peas, scallion, oyster mushroom, charred vegetable demi-glace, kale, pumpkin seeds, parmesan) a bit more, but wasn't enthusiastic about it either.

Dessert was the standout, I loved the Opera cake (chocolate cake, chocolat crémeux, milk chocolate mousse, coffee chantilly cream). It was perfectly sweet, with an excellent texture in each bite, and each element stood out while combining for a superb creation. Yum.

Cocktails were fine but not remarkable either.

Maybe an off night but not compelling enough to return, except maybe for dessert.

The DC food scene is distinctive and impressive. Convivial was both, being truly different from the "other Frwnch themed" competitor nearby. I
have been to Convivial ever since opening, and a few times. Sadly the exegiencies of running a quality eatery, has impacted Convivial. I am reluctant to give a less than stellar rating. At our latest visit, the menu was a prix fixe type: Pick 2 or 3, one each from appetizer, entree and dessert. Not sure if the a la Carter menu has been suspended for the dog days of summer, or not. My companion and I settled for pick 2. My bib lettuce selection was just that. I truly felt like a long haired fella stuffing myself with a whole head of lettuce coated with ranch dressing, and a few chops of chives. The warm bread and butter served for the table was helpful. My entree order, gnocchi is where the Chef showed his brilliance, esp the crispish gnocchi, Kal, pepita seeds. My companion ordered a whole trout, that was accompanied by beans. The Burrata salad seemed more appetizing than bib. On a Sunday evening, the place was not super busy. Service by Carlos was nice and friendly. The bill was 3 dollars. My beverage was plain aqua and the companion's was a plain ale.

Beautiful display of brunch in the pic here. I had oeufs poches, printaniers with green veggies and it was delish! I went with 3 others and while we were in deep conversation, the servers were good, they were unobtrusive and attentive and the experience all around was a pleasure. I would highly recommend Convivial, the restaurant feel was French with a British twist.

My parents and I are frequent customers there, so we definitely love the food.
Today, I'm sharing my personal experience at yesterday's family outing to Convivial on Happy Hour. Good price reductions. The single patty cheeseburger is to DIE for. And as always, I got one of my top 2 desserts there: profiteroles!
Not too crowded on Thursdays during rush hour time.
And fun bonus: they had some Elvis Presley songs in the background that day.

Parking: Garage available right by the restaurant.

Wheelchair accessibility: Ground level restaurant. Flat surfaces. No staircases.

Excellent take on modern French-American cuisine. High quality dishes and ingredients, and great value for the cost. Not as expensive as your typical French restaurants, but by no means inexpensive. Good service as well.
