Service was absent. I felt like I almost needed a ouija board to ask for a drink. In 2 hours was served 2 drinks. Not to me to mention my friend didn’t get her second drink.
I was impressed with the service, mind you, it was early evening and quiet. But, I was greeted by a friendly bartender which sets the tone. The craft of the cocktails is wonderful, and the new spring offerings simply amazing! Pricey, but it's one should expect that to have cocktails created by artisans.
As a recent transplant from NYC, I was delighted to see that Death & Co. had a DC location. The service was great and the drinks were elevated. They are pricy, but I generally prefer to spend $20 on a drink I can't make at home than $15 for a Gin and Tonic at a standard bar.
A top tier cocktail bar. Death & Co DC lives up to the high standards of the other Death & Co locations. Their menu is full of innovative flavors and their service is excellent. The Lucid Dream Negroni and the Mr. Wednesday were particularly excellent.
Totally worth my time of waiting - an hour. Their cocktails are the next levels 😍 They currently have the Sakura Bar outside of the bar (as of 04/11/2025).
Where to start with Death and Co. A place where the leading man in a 1950s noir classic sits down for a cocktail he may not understand but surely enjoys. My journey began with ordering from the 'Elegant & Timeless' section of cocktails. After receiving my drink and engaging in the ceremonial act of everyone taking a sip of each other's drink, I can say that all the drinks were balanced and delicious. Some balanced rocket fuel and sweet vermouth, while others were a battle between comfortable velvet and friendly tequila. Death and Co. is a place where every sip tells a story, and every drink is a journey worth taking.
My wife and I shared a few cocktails from their 'Modern Classic' menu (happy hour Monday👍) they all were very distinctive and quiet impressive (obviously som better than others). Service was AWESOME!
Only weakness was the app, popcorn, mostly burnt. But still a must stop, they know their cocktails!
You get chips and popcorn if you go a bit late.... I was impressed with there marketing but they did not leave that hype of hospitality. Drink was average too. We went with 8 people group and no place to sit 8 people...
Very great time!! Really kind staff, great food, and drinks. Soooo many drink selections. Not as many food selections but it’s a bar so that’s to be expected.
My friend is blind and they had a braille drinks menu for her!! They didn’t have a braille food menu but they were incredibly receptive, apologized, and genuinely seemed like this was something they would work on.
They asked about dietary issues when we first ordered drinks and asked again when we ordered food. Their menu indicated what was vegetarian as well as other diets but I can’t remember what else was there. They seemed to really care about their customers’ food needs.
The staff continually topped off our waters. At a bar, water is very necessary and they were very attentive with that.
The only thing I had any sort of “issue” with was the lighting. They closed the blinds at sunset which goes with their vibe. BUT they also dimmed the lights and did so again maybe 20 minutes later. It got very hard to see and I had to bring a candle close to see my food and eventually the check!
Overall, it was a very nice night with good food, drinks, music, staff, and overall vibes. For sure will be coming back!!
Fantastic drinks and food, great service, definitely one of the best DC bars

HUGE letdown.
(1) The place is disgusting. The lights are dimmed to hide how dirty it is.
(2) Because the lights are dimmed they being a portable light (?) so you can read the menu.
(3) There’s a man checking IDs at the door like you’re going to a bar selling $5 vodka cranberries instead of to a $25/drink bar.
(4) Music is loud and bad.
(5) The entire place reeked of dollar store incense.
(6) The drinks were good, but not good enough to deal with (1)-(5) again.
The hostess is very rude!
Needing a reservation to just sit at the bar is absurd. Walked in yesterday afternoon with plenty of visible seats available but was turned away because we didn’t have a reservation. Very disappointed.
I wandered by this great cocktail bar by accident on a Sunday afternoon. Friendly and knowledgeable bartenders.
With a Sunday to Wednesday Happy hour from 5-7pm and all day on Monday with $13 classic cocktails and half price bar snacks it is an amazing place and definitely worth a stop.
They have an amazing selection of liquors and alcohol that are not easy to find on the East Coast. These include Hood River Distillery Kirshwasser (Cherry Brandy made with real Oregon State cherries) add to the charm.
Olives are great and make sure you order them . 👍👍👍
You can also get the Death and Company cocktail book and play bartender yourself at home. Already had the book and was really happy to trip across this sister bar from the original location in New York.
Will definitely put this in the happy hour rotation! 😁
Death & Co. is a cocktail bar located in Blagden Alley. Reservations are recommended. I liked how they had several options for Dry January. The service was alright - had to remind our server about our drinks. The Painter's Palette (Pisco Sour) and Invisible String Theory were delicious. We weren't a fan of the Tuna Crudo or Marinated Olives. Regarding the Tuna Crudo, it reminded us of a tuna taco. It was heavily tangy (from the lime), salty, fishy, and not worth $22. Regarding the Marinated Olives, I liked the combination of ingredients (Spanish olives, aged cheddar, lemon zest, rosemary). However, we were surprised for $12 that the olives were not pitted!
