On May 8, 2021, I placed an $110 order with District Soul Food (DSF) in Washington, DC, that was supposed to be delivered on May 9, 2021 (Mother's Day) at 3 pm by GrubHub. I waited from 3pm to 8 pm and I did not receive any delivery at my SW home. My order # was 25601515-8202532. I did not receive any phone call to let me know that the order would be delayed or would not be delivered. Each time, I tried to call the DCF main phone number, I was informed that the it was full and could not take any more calls. Therefore, I formally request that I receive a FULL refund for my order, since it was never delivered. I will never purchase anything from DSF again because of this horrible service!! Robert H.

The service was great! The hostess seated us quickly and the waitress was attentive. This place has an upstairs hookah and cigar louge. The chicken wings were good and my fried chicken entree was really good. The portions were large so a to-go box was needed. Check out the upstair louge when you visit.

Let me start by saying that this restaurant has potential. I have ordered takeout and the food was great on one occasion. However, on my second takeout order experience the customer service was extremely lousy. The food was disgust-- very inconsistent as if another chef was in the kitchen. I ordered the oxtails which were old, sticky and completely disgusting. The whole order was inedible. I tried to contact the restaurant but with no avail. No one answered the phone. In essence, the place is very poorly managed and short staffed. I noticed the host working as a server, expo, take out and other positions. It's a whole hot a** mess. I tried to reach out to management during non-peak hours and this person came across very defensive all while being extremely wrong. It's very sad because I really wanted to like and support this place. I will patronize US more when we learn to treat US better.

The chicken was amazing but the rest of the food Was okay at best it was very over priced for soul food. The Mac and cheese was very dry as well as the yams. The bar tender was lovely however the rest of the service was horrible we waited over an hour for our food and then another 40+ for hot sauce. We ended up just leaving with our food in to go plates with out the hot sauce because they never brought it out despite us asking numerous times. The atmosphere was very nice, not a bad place to go to if you don't mind the long wait and I personally wouldn't order the same sides since they were very disappointing.

The catfish was by far the best thing I had, fried perfectly and seasoned really well. The fried chicken also had a good crunch. The greens were also pretty tasty. The Mac and cheese was average and the sweet potatoes were okay but it was more so just little bits of sweet potato in a lot of sauce. Overall it was quality but the prices are a bit much.

Great service mediocre food. Had the seafood pasta and you can tell the crab came from the can. Shrimps were big and juicy though. The Alfredo sauce had no flavor and taste like it came out of a bag with the linguine pasta. Had fries and a burger too and honestly five guys is better. Love supporting black businesses but that pasta needs flavor. For $35 for 1 plate of seafood pasta I was expecting more.

Delicious!!!!! make sure you don't eat anything before you go, as the portions are generous. Special mention to Aaron (our bartender) who kept the bottomless Mimosas flowing and ensured we had everything we needed to make this lunch date a great experience. My wife and I both had the shrimp and grits with eggs and found the meal to well seasoned with the grits being that right kind of creamy when served with shrimp. I dropped some hot sauce on mine and was immediately taken to that next level. We found the atmosphere relaxing and enjoyed the local artist portraits that are on display throughout the restaurant. The music was on point and the overall vibe of the establishment was very positive! Hats off to the Chefs in the Kitchen!!! We will return here often and I suggest you get there as fast as you can!!!

Honestly so disappointed! We ordered wings and they tasted like they were store bought and fried in old oil. And I'm not even picky about my wings. I also had the fries with crap on top. And that's exactly what it tasted like, fries with crab meat on top. ‍ And then lastly we ordered banana pudding and were given banana bread... which isn't even on their menu. Definitely would not recommend and would not return.

I pass this place on my way to work and decided to give it a try with a very good friend who is in town visiting. The food was hot and delicious(had the catfish, asparagus and mashed potatoes). The waitress was attentive and very helpful. I will definitely come back soon with the family!

I went to this restaurant just to enjoy a nice meal and some drinks after work. I arrived and was greeted by the host. I was introduced to my waiter and received a glass of water and ordered my food. It took 20 to 25 minutes to get my food. As I looked around I noticed it wasn’t that many people in the restaurant for my food to arrive so late. I wanted to leave but I continued to wait because it was black owned, I wanted to give them a chance and I didn’t want to go home on such a beautiful day. I finally received my food. It was good. I ordered 2 drinks. The location was great, good atmosphere, nice music, portraits was nice, upstairs for hookah and cigar overall good place. I will return with friends. Hopefully the wait time won’t be as long.

We spotted this restaurant while strolling down 8th street looking for good places to eat and were not disappointed. The staff were all very polite and the food was incredible! We got the crab cakes, chicken dinner, and fried catfish, and all 3 dishes were absolutely delicious. The service was a bit slow in the beginning, but it looked like they were short staffed that day and we did come a bit early for dinner, so that probably accounted for that. Regardless, the food was 100% worth the wait!

This is a black owned business and when you go on Sunday's you can only order brunch until 2:30 then you have to wait until 4:30 for dinner. The food took awhile to come out and it was fresh. You have to ask for condiments and overall I think the restaurant needs to increase the brunch options at least add Pancakes.

3rd time coming food is bomb cant lie but service is subpar. Had a 6 o clock reservation for patio seating waited 20 mins to be seated. While waiting for menus server informed us the kitchen was on hold for orders and did not give me a projected ETA. Waited an additional 10 mins no menus, drinks or complimentary corn bread then went to the hostees and she informed me the kitchen was on hold for 1hr. It would have been great to know that during my 20 min wait we could have put in our orders and been eating. Gotta do better with service but food is worth coming back in the future.

My wife and I were very disappointed in this want-to-be restaurant. Customers should not be searched/patted down to eat. In fact, who wants to smell hookah smoke while they're eating? Thank goodness we didn't eat although we did try to salvage the evening by ordering drinks. IT DIDN'T MAKE THE EXPERIENCE ANY BETTER!!!! I should've known better....save your money and go to a real restaurant.
