I had a good time at Doro Soul Restaurant:

Honestly, I would have rated everything 5/5 if it weren’t for the buttery taste in the chicken. I wish the chef offered an option to choose between oil or butter for the chicken marinade. The flavor was a bit too heavy for me and my husband. That said, I think it’s an acquired taste, so everyone should try it for themselves.

This place is amazing! My kids and I became aware of it while watching a random video from the YouTube channel Eater. We added it on our bucket list just in case we go to DC and as luck would have it, we were in DC this weekend so, we decided to stop by for a bite before we hit the road.

OMG!!! The food was amazing! The service was top notch and the entire atmosphere was really great! My kids loved it so much we ended up taking a pic with the owner. He is an amazing person and I will eat at Doro every time I come to DC now!

I give this business a 11 outta 10. 👍🏾

Chicken was delicious, quite moist, good flavor. Did take a little while to get my food but they seemed to be slammed. Get there early, some of their better known items sell out.

I met my cousin, who flew in for a conference. I hadn't seen her in almost a decade, as she lives in Arizona. Our bartender was extremely attentive, kind ans funny. The food was sublime and the location is a pure gem near Howard Hospital ans 930 club. Highly recommend if you want to be treated with top tier customer service.

I recognized the ethiopian chef from a youtube video. This is the only place, where the owner does not acknowledge his guests. He walks by you, without engaging you or asking if you're having a good time, what do you think about the food... he completely ignored all the guests at his restaurant and walked away. Kinda guy that seems bit arrogant maybe. That's the vibe we got from the owner. Food is decent, but nothing special!!!!

Fantastic experience. It can be a challenge finding parking but the trip is worth it. There’s a wonderful atmosphere with very friendly and helpful staff, and the food is fantastic. Everything we had was delicious. My wife and I had the alicha char-grilled Doro plate, turmeric Cole slaw, collard greens (best I’ve ever had), sweet potato fries, berbere fries, and a goden taco. I would say even if you are a big meat eater, the goden taco is a MUST HAVE. For a veggie taco the flavors were spot on. Down is definitely a keeper! Probably the only downside is parking can be difficult, street parking in DC. But go for it.

Two months ago, I was doing a small Ethiopian food tour in DC and stopped here. I reviewed this place last because this was my least favorite visit. I was ignored at the ordering window. Then, the signage at the dine-in entrance was confusing, and there was no host station. It was difficult to get assistance with ordering. It didn't help that the chicken sandwich was overpriced, I didn't like it, and I didn't get the hype behind the crunchy Mac and cheese. The dine in service was slightly better than the takeout window, but the bad impression plus the thumbs down food lost me.

The fried chicken is a disappointment. The service staff is lazy and rude. I would find another place to have soul food.

Did delivery through Uber Eats which was a waste of money, but would definitely order again and just pick it up. Everything was delicious. I thought the serving sizes of chicken were great, I got the spiciest option and it had good heat. We got all the sides and everything was great. Soul food is awesome, and Ethiopian spices are awesome and the two were brought together nicely. Thanks!

My husband had been wanting to try this food for a while after hearing about it, but unfortunately we were extremely underwhelmed. The food was not spicy or very flavorful at all. He ordered the chicken sandwich and spicy mac. Neither were spicy. I ordered the tenders and greens. The tenders were alright, but definitely not worth the money. The greens were good, but no spice or kick.
When we ordered our food we ordered at the window and got a text receipt but never received any information about when to expect our food. We sat outside the restaurant for a while before going up to ring the bell to ask about our food only to find that it had been sitting there for a while with no notice. All in all definitely not worth the money or trip unless you are close by.
