Dovetail Bar & Restaurant

We were there early on a Friday evening prior to a concert. We enjoyed a perfectly done Branzino, truly delicious, even exceptional. We found the house red unacceptable - a bottom--shelf cab, unpleasantly astringent. But the wait staff was happy to take it back, offer a taste of an alternative (very smooth Tempranillo, our choice from the wine list). Sides were slightly overwhipped mashed potatoes, tasty but consistency bordering on gluey. Delicious roasted brussels sprouts with dried cranberries, quite nice. Very friendly, professional, and highly attentive service, on a quiet rainy night in an otherwise nearly empty restaurant that evening.

Dovetail is a hidden gem. The cocktails were excellent, prepared by a bartender who clearly knows her trade extremely well. The food was, without exception, outstanding. (Had the weather been better we would have eaten on the very attractive patio.) Happy Hour (4-6) alone had some great and innovative choices (including an outstanding corvina ceviche). I can only conclude that the relatively few people eating there is due to the fact that it is not well-known. Well, it should be a LOT better known! Try it! You'll love it!

The food was excellent and my daughter had a really special celebration. We had a wonderful server named William who took great care of our party.

Phenomenal spot in the heart of DC! Great food, creative drinks, and really wonderful people are the foundation of this place. Took a trip through DC just for the chance at getting fire roasted chestnuts (a rarity here in the states). Even though it wasn’t a night they typically have them, they still roasted it up just for me— and then gifted them to me free of charge for the wait. They had no idea I even came in from several states away just for Chestnuts. That speaks volumes to the care they have given to their customers. Come visit Dovetail, and you will not be disappointed! 10 out of 10!!!

I sat at the bar with Axel as my bartender and service was great, conversation was great, and the food and drinks were wonderful! The crab deviled eggs are a must! Will be back again! Thanks team!

Great dinner. The 3 course $50 special is a nice value for good quality food. Nice ambiance and good service.

It was a last-minute reservation. What a great little hidden gem. Our server was adorable and attentive. Everyone loved what they had. We will definitely be back when we are in town next.

We had a beautiful experience returning to Dovetail at the Viceroy DC. Hasina was attentive, engaging and made our anniversary dinner that much more memorable. As we reminisced about our nuptials it was Hasina and all of the staff who added that extra touch to our dining experience.

Amazing experience here for dinner. We sat outside on the heated patio and did the 4 course dinner with wine pairing. Amazing experience and service was 10/10. For the amazing price, I really didn't expect everything so delicious. Friendly and speedy service. 10/10. We can't wait to come back!

Our waitress, Hasina, was absolutely wonderful! She continuously checked in to make sure we were okay and that everything was just right. She paid close attention to our orders to ensure accuracy and went above and beyond with her warm personality and the brightest smile. She truly made our dining experience the best, and we are so grateful for her excellent service. Highly recommend asking for Hasina when you visit!

Our server William provided just the right level of attentiveness and was very personable and professional. All in all it was a very happy evening and the food and wine were amazing! Dovetail is now one of my favorite DC restaurants.
