We didn't realize on a rainy Wednesday night it would be so hard to get a meal in dupont before a 8p Constitution Hall show. The restaurant that we were going to try had a line out the door. We stumbled upon Dukes Grocery at 7p, it was packed, very dark and gloomy. Without a reservation the staff was very attentive and found us a table tucked in the back near the hallway to the bathroom. At this point we were grateful, wet, tired, and needed to eat within 45 minutes to get back to the show in time. We ordered the wagyu burgers with the side salad, which was basically arugula radishes and a vinaigrette. They provided us our own bottle of water. The burgers arrived within 10 minutes and our server checked on us a few minutes later to see if everything was okay. We told our server that we needed to get out the door to get to at 8p show and she expedited the bill. We were out the door by 7:35p. We would go back for the food and the service.

A regular go-to for burgers and futbol matches on the telly! Happy hour from 12-7, unmatched!

Edit: Thank you so much for your prompt reply! I just gave your fine establishment another chance and it was awesome! The server we had was fast, efficient, and super nice! Glad to see that one of my favorite restaurants is doing well!

Duke's serves one of the best hamburgers in town. And it's service is prompt and friendly.

This place never disappoints. I've been a number of times now and every item I've tried from the menu has been deliciously prepares. I'm sure to return here again. There's a great outdoor area when the weather is good, and a spacious dining room inside. There's also bar seating if you're into that (both downstairs and up)!

Was just okay, Proper Burger was good but definitely not the greatest as advertised on the menu given the price and no included sides. Service was well

Ordered to go, service was great, pho was absolutely awful. Not enough noodles, no sauces, meat way overdone, way too expensive ($19 with tax etc) for a small bowl of pho. Would not order again.

Had the best Pho Ga in a long time!

Came here today for lunch and got the proper burger. The bun was burnt, and the burger was dry. For $18+ I expected more of flavor and better presentation.

The drinks came really fast but it took some time for the food. The burger was great.

The reason i’m giving it two stars is because the manager was so rude but the service was great. We had a new waiter but he was really nice and gave great service. But the manager was watching him like a hawk. My friend wanted to order another drink but before we could the manager threw the check on our table so we couldn’t order anything else. We hadn’t even been there 45 minutes…

Response: Yes this was the foggy bottom location and yes I was aware of the 90 minute limit. Like I said before, not even there for 45 minutes.

Went to Duke’s Grocery in Foggy Bottom with a group of coworkers and had an overall great experience. The service was just okay, but the food more than made up for it—really solid bar-style fare. Of everything we tried, three items stood out: the Buffalo wings (best of the night), the mac and cheese, and the Proper Burger. The fries also deserve an honorable mention. It had a fun, laid-back vibe and felt like the perfect spot to hang out on a Tuesday night. Would definitely go back.
