The back area was super hot. We were sweating and it wasn't a hot day. Food varied from very good to meh. Pot pies got rave reviews. The rest of the menu... blah and disappointing. Touristy but most restaurants in this part of DC tend to be. So quality can be hit it miss in places like this. 3.4 stars

Was reminded of E&C while visiting London recently. Decided to revisit the E&C close to my old DC office. Cute English pub ambience including the 2 Brits leaving as we entered? Service was prompt and friendly. The food was uneven: the 4 pie tasting was a good for lunch: interesting variety and the ground lamb in the Shepherds pie was a nice authentic change from the mostly ground beef versions found in too many US pubs. The Reuben sandwich was not very good - despite the generous serving of spiced fries. The corned beef tasted dry and really flavorless except for the saltiness - it may have been from a package of packaged pre-sliced sandwich meat. A big fail!

Fun place, ok pub food, quick food delivery. The only complaint was it took 20 minutes to get a beer after we ordered. The food came out super quick.

I mad a reservation and went to the Elephant and Castle on Pennsylvania Ave in order to watch the Arsenal vs Brentford soccer game on Sunday Mar12 because this pub was advertised as "sports friendly". While they did show the game the volume was only on for a few minutes(I assume someone complained). If this pub and others in this chain advertise as being "sports friendly" then they should have the volume on as well as the sporting event. There are other places I could have gone to watch the game with the sound on and not feel like I wasted my time and money.

It's a great place to go for a game. However, the service was off. Given the number of patrons in the place, it didn't make sense that we waited over ten minutes before we encountered a wait staff member at our table. When we flagged someone down, we received excellent service.

The food and ambience were amazing. Our waitress Nicole was great but was a little overwhelmed at the time. Definitely wasn't her fault. It seemed they were short staffed. Would definitely recommend this place over and over again.

The cozy atmosphere, really amazing service by ERICA and delicious food surpassed all my expectations! I’ve been to Scotland and haven’t had Shepherds pie as good as this place. What made it amazing was Erica. We had drinks within 5 minutes and food on the table in 15! She even got a great photo for us to remember this experience.

My group of four visited this restaurant today, and unfortunately, we were quite disappointed with our experience. Upon arrival, we were seated at a table in a section that had no other guests, while there were several available tables in other areas of the restaurant. The hostess said someone will serve us soon. It took over ten minutes for the hostess herself to come take our order, which felt unnecessarily slow. While the food was served in about 10 minutes, the service issues persisted. During our meal, another party arrived and was promptly seated in a different area. This raised concerns for us about the potential for biased treatment, particularly as we are of Asian? Given this experience, we do not feel inclined to return or recommend this establishment to others.
