The food was good, but there was a hair in my water so I tipped only 15%, but then the server lectured me about how I was wrong to tip so low (I thought 15% was high considering there was a hair in my water and she never came by the table to check on us). She continued to insist that I tip 18%. When I refused, she tried to argue that it was the law to tip 18%. Such a bewildering experience. The food was good, but not good enough to be harassed by the servers for money.

Server tried to make us order more, and tried to make us order more expensive stuff even though we didn’t need it. The restaurant was empty but she didn’t really come by to fill all of our waters. At the end I tipped only 15% because of the bad service and our server told me I can’t do that because “18% tip is required by law”. Tipping is optional, there is no such law. The whole interaction was so rude and off-putting. At the end the receipt didn’t show item by item either so I couldn’t check if it was all correct but I just wanted to leave because of the server’s bad attitude.

Elfegne Restaurant is truly one of the best in DC. Their authentic Ethiopian cuisine is outstanding, and the hospitality makes you feel right at home. The prices are very reasonable for the quality and experience you get. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking to enjoy delicious food and great service.

It was our first time in DC, and we had such a wonderful experience dining here with my family! My kids loved the Shiro and Alicha Doro Wot (chickpeas and chicken), while my wife and I enjoyed the Awaze Tibs (spicy beef) along with the 6 vegetables combo everything was so delicious. The service was super friendly, and even the bathroom was very clean. We’ll definitely be coming back!

We had an amazing experience at this Ethiopian restaurant! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home.
We came as a group and ordered the Mahberawi combo, Elfgne Special Goden Tibs, Kitfo, and Lamb Tibs. Every single dish was delicious—the flavors were authentic, fresh, and perfectly prepared. The presentation was also impressive, making the food just as beautiful as it was tasty.
This place is a true gem, and I would 100% recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic and memorable Ethiopian dining experience. We’ll definitely be coming back!
