Went to Elle for the first time this morning with my family of 7 including some very finicky eaters, and we all LOVE it! Little kids got the yogurt and granola and blueberry scones, hot cocoa and matcha. Older kids got the breakfast sandwiches and quiche. All rave reviews! Took home some salted choc cookies and maple cinnamon granola, which barely made it all the way home. 10/10!

Food was fine, had to keep asking for drinks repeatedly, which still didn’t turn up until after we were done with food. Even then, drinks were still missing. Not even that busy on a Monday afternoon. Sourdough toast with anchovies was good though.

My experience is mostly with the cafe, which is not worth going to even when there is no line. Coffee is mediocre and overpriced and service is sometimes-rude, and always kinda pretentious (a vibe that the entire establishment has). Egg sandwich is too small, and also mediocre and overpriced.
However, i still go sometimes (only when there is no line) for one reason: the sourdough is amazing.

Wow so rude. Just left after the oddest interaction ever. I typically come in on the weekends and order a latte and read for a bit. Tonight, I came in to do the same thing and unfortunately the espresso machine was down. I had already sat down after a twenty minute walk and asked, oh I really was hoping for a coffee. But that’s ok, mind if I just sit here and read for a bit? The waiter said well this is a place that sells food so you need to buy something if you want to stay. I’m sorry, but that’s not a very welcoming experience. Not only had I frequented this establishment, but they just didn’t have what I wanted so is it really that much trouble if someone wants to sit a read? The place was half empty and very calm. Obviously I will not be returning. Bad energy!

I walk up from Dupont Circle just to enjoy this lovely café. The food in the restaurant (and in the bakery) is high-quality. They even have some of the best baguettes in town. If you want to have breakfast with a friend, try to meet them here! It has a very cool vibe.
