The food was decent but the service was extraordinarily slow. We did not receive our entrees until almost an hour after our first courses and then we waited for another hour and some change for our dessert and the check to leave. Either they are severely understaffed or the kitchen is poorly managed.
I enjoyed all the dishes but the lobster was a bit dry.

Food was great! Our waiter could have done a little better at paying attention to our needs. The atmosphere is nice. Would recommend!

Man…I love my people but can we retire the “black is luxury” look for all our restaurants please?

We started the night off right with recreational activities then decided to hit restaurant week up to find our next gem in the city to frequent.

We stumbled upon Flavorture after doing the googles and decided to try out some authentic soul food. After walking in and standing for about 5mins to figure out what the next steps were, we were finally told that the bar is open and we needed a reservation….ok cool.

Once we sat down our bartender greeted us in a somewhat unenthused and bothered type of tone. Once again it’s restaurant week so we completely understand, it’s a lot of people just popping in and out and only asking for the bare minimum or not tipping…we get it.

My fiance asked her verbatim “we’re trying to hit multiple spots tonight and wanted to know if we can just order off the RW menu for one and split it?”

The bartender then turns her nose up and stares at us blankly. My fiancé then asks her is it ok to do again and she was just like “what else do you want?”

So after a hot 5-10 seconds of looks she finally takes our order like we broke or something. Nose up in the air, hair just twirling….smooth attitude.

We surprisingly got our starters pretty fast, but our food seemed to make it to everybody else’s table but ours for the next HOUR…I repeat we sat and waited for our food DURING RESTAURANT WEEK FOR AN HOUR.

Crazy right?

Besides shawdy tryna turn away business, and long unnecessary wait time, the food is good tho…not great. We had the cornbread, vegan egg rolls (didn’t specify what “ground” is for the filling but cool beans), salmon bites (which took forever) and the Bass and grits (just ok)

Overall experience was mid for the price…the food is good enough for the wytes but the ambience and decor is giving hookah bar. Not really my speed but I don’t think it’s catering to my crowd anyway so touché.

Just would be nice to have more colors to look at instead of black.

Flavorture gets an easy 3 out 5 “that’s ights” from me. It’s basically Milk N’ Honey at night lmao.

Pro tip tho: a lil customer service and thoughtful planning of guests upon entry goes a long way…trust me.

My first experience at this establishment was not as pleasant as I anticipated. We decided to visit after a recommendation for a good place to dine to celebrate two of my Sisters birthdays. However, by the end of our dining experience, I felt we owed the ladies an apology and another night out to makeup for the epic failures we experienced.

Glows: Music was nice and most of the restaurant staff had a great attitude. The menu is very diverse with something for everyone (vegans, pescatarians, and picky eaters). We were offered and provided free croissants and one appetizer of our choosing to compensate for some of the issues we encountered when we arrived (table was unavailable). The croissants were delicious and the rum punch mug was excellent. My Sister's crab cake benny entree was delicious and to her liking.

Lows: There is no foyer area for parties waiting for their tables. We waited for 49mins to be seated (even with a confirmed reservation). Our server seemed overwhelmed with two large tables (our party of 6 and an adjacent party of about 10/12).

We ordered drinks and our comp appetizer at approximately 4:02 PM. The croissants arrived at 4:37. The lobster mac & cheese arrived at 4:47 PM. This was an 1 hour and 47 mins after our reservation. So, as anyone can imagine, we were extremely hungry awaiting our food.

Unfortunately we were unable to really enjoy it fully as the lobster tail was not detached from the shell before it was deep fried. So, essentially we had to deconstruct the lobster tail on another plate, remove shell fragments from the meat and mix it with the mac n cheese to consume it.

Mac n cheese was heavily salted and tasted off. We could not place the taste and it was unpleasant. I was unable to taste the collard greens because the kitchen ran out.

Four of us ordered the Steak & Eggs and all of our steaks were incorrectly prepared. The kitchen mixed up the 2 mediums, medium rare, well done steaks which caused us to plate swap at the table multiple times to get the temperatures close to what we selected. We also did this with the eggs. But unfortunately one of the ladies did not receive her over medium eggs because they were mostly over well.

My steak was definitely not a ribeye as advertised. Although it was extremely thin and overcooked, it was seasoned well. The potatoes were overcooked, mushy, and the red peppers gave them a tart flavor that did not complement them well. They were intended to be more like home fries, but this did not happen as it was intended.

Most of the entrees arrived at 5:01 PM, my other sister did not receive her fish n grits entree until about 5:24 PM while others were almost finished eating. Her fish was not good. They added shrimp to compensate for the delay. The shrimp was delicious. But the grits and sauce were not good (the grits were too saucy).

I also ordered a side of Brussel Sprouts that I had to inquire about twice before it arrived at 5:34 PM. I immediately asked for a box to store them to take home as I was ready to depart from the establishment at this time.

We asked two servers for a manager numerous times. The manager never came to our table. It was upsetting and frustrating all the failures we experienced. Especially since the bill was almost $500 for 6 people. We expected more.

I hope this review inspires some reflection and improvements are made to ensure that no one experiences service like this again.

Kid-friendliness: Music and hookah not kid friendly

Wheelchair accessibility: Limited accessibility. Restaurant had narrow walkways and no handicap accessible bathroom.

I was very excited to actually visit Flavorture as they have catered my golf group's tournament committee dinner for the past 2 years. One of my A1s also had this on her list of restaurants, so we went here for dinner to kick off her forty-fine birthday weekend celebration. We had reservations for 9:30 for a party of 6, but ended up only being 5 as 1 had an emergency. So let's start off there's a $20 pp reservation deposit. I know many restaurants were doing that during COVID, but I thought that had ceased. Wasn't a big deal, but something that should be noted. Though I gave it 4 stars, it is hands down the best black owned restaurant I have visited in the DMV in a VERY long time. Customer service can make or break a restaurant and the customer service was impeccable on every level possible.

Our server, Christine was very pleasant and answered all of our questions. We started with drinks (3 lemon drops w/Tito's, (they were out of lychee for the lychee martini) hot tea and blackberry mint mojito mocktail. We also ordered house bread and mussels for apps. At this point, everyone is pleased.

It's vegetarian and dry January for me, so I ordered the vegan egg rolls and kale Caesar salad as my entree. The rest of the ladies ordered the stuffed chicken breast, lamb chops, lobster & crab scampi, and branzino with sides of mac & cheese and broccolini. There was an order placed for the mashed potatoes, however, it wasn't enough for a full order as the sides should serve 2-3. I believe the birthday girl asked if they could be served anyway. Entrees began to come @ 10:40, kitchen closes at 11. The presentation of all the dishes is beautiful and camera ready, which is great as we eat with our eyes first. Looks can be deceiving. The egg rolls were over salted to the point they were inedible. The stuffed chicken was cold and the lambchops were overcooked. The branzino and scampi were both hot and as delicious as they looked. The food didn't come all at once. The egg rolls, branzino, lambchops, broccolini and 1 order of mac & cheese came first. Then the chicken, mashed potatoes and kale salad. Next the scampi and then 5-7 minutes later the last mac & cheese. As runners were bringing the food, we needed to wait for Christine. While waiting for the scampi, we told Christine about the cold chicken, overcooked lambchops and salty egg rolls. The chicken was the first thing to come back. It was the same piece of chicken reheated and topped with more cheese. All of my servsafe training kicked in. We waited a few minutes and then I got up and asked to speak to a manager. This is where great customer service comes in. Milton had just sat down to eat, but very graciously got up to speak with me. We thought it was microved due to how quickly it came back, but he assured me they didn't have microwaves and it had been placed in the oven, but would have a new one made for us. He immediately sent Christine to get the plate. She assumed it was fresh and not reheated. She returned with the scampi, then the medium well lambchops, then the fresh chicken and finally the other order of mac & cheese. By the time all the food came, it was well past 11 and the kitchen was closed. 15-20 minutes later she was able to find a dessert for the birthday girl. As we were packing up the leftovers, a gentleman came out from the kitchen to greet us. He never told us who he was but did hint to being an owner or part owner. He asked about our experience and what could be improved. He chatted with us for at least 10 minutes and bought shots for the birthday girl tables (there was another table celebrating as well). Though they were trying to close, they didn't rush us out, even allowed the birthday girl to have a mini photo shoot in the bar area.

I will definitely come back and recommend they teach others about what good customer service in the hospitality industry looks like.

The worst experience EVER. Went for my daughter’s birthday dinner and they had NO Heat. Mine you it was 20 degrees outside and it felt the same inside. Everyone was wearing coats at their tables. Even the wait staff had on big overcoats. When I addressed this with management, he said they would get us a space heater but there was no wall outlet near us to plug in the cord. 🥶 When we left one of the waitresses finally told us that the heat had gone out earlier and technician had been called but due to the weekend they didn’t know when he would arrive. Instead of letting their customers know the situation, refund them their deposit and close down the restaurant until the heat was fixed, they just went on like nothing was wrong. And Don’t be fooled by the balloon ceiling decor in the TikTok videos because I was. They didn’t have that either. It was a black dark cramped space with no ascetics like presented in their videos. Remember this was my daughter’s birthday so the ascetics were important for us. Please don’t get me started on the food. It is subpar, overpriced and not SOUL food. The corn bread ain’t like any southern style I have ever tasted neither are their tasteless, soggy collard greens. The mushroom peppered steak taste like a frozen dinner served over rice. The lamb chops were rubbery and mash potatoes tasted like that out of the box. The buffalo shrimp was heavily breaded and too spicy. The only good dish we had were the Brussels sprouts. This food is not BLACK Soul food. It is African-based. STOP marketing it as such 😡 The ONLY reason we went was to support a BLACK owned business and the ONLY reason we stayed is because they required a $20 per person deposit to book a reservation. There were three of us, that was $60 so they already had us on the ropes. Oh and the drinks are over priced as well $18 for a cocktail. They are pricing their food like fine dining when it’s far from that more like a hole in the wall. PLEASE don’t patronize this business especially if you are looking for BLACK SOUL food because this is NOT it. African is not the same as BLACK remember that PLEASE!!!

ABSOLUTELY DISAPPOINTING. We waited 2 hours to cold food and an excuse that there was only 2 people in the kitchen. For the cost. You could definitely find better options

Today, my friend and I are here for brunch. The service (super slow), loud music, and mediocre food was very disappointing. The GM (Milton) came to our table, but the damage was already done. With so many restaurants in AdMo, Cleveland Park, and Van Ness; I will never dine here again.

The food was amazing!! The service on the other hand was terrible. I came to celebrate my birthday with 6 of my friends and not once did the waiter come back to refill waters or check on us. My martini had spilled over and when she brought me a replacement it was straight up lemon juice and liquor. Then they had messed up some orders and she was very rude about it and spoke to us with an attitude the rest of the night. Food 10/10 but the service was a 0.

Canceled my birthday reservation no email no text no customer service no empathy
Management blatantly lied to my face saying I called my own reservation without proof. I traveled from out of town I called the day before and confirmed as large parties don’t book online they never asked for a payment nothing just said it’s confirmed
I confirmed with 2 employees on two different dates. They are unprofessional and rude. I have 8 people hungry turnt to the street on THEIR MISTAKE!
Do not book . Did I mention they lied and said they talked to me. Literally without proof .

Came from out of Town for my Friends birthday. The restaurant canceled our reservation. No cancellation email confirmation was sent. We had no idea until our party started arriving at the restaurant. They tried to seat our party of 8 at the bar. Horrible customer service.

First and foremost, a HUGE shout out to Moe, our host. He was very attentive, hospitality and on point! Keep up the great work. Our appetizers; the Buffalo shrimp and the Chesapeake Oysters were amazing; 10/10. I had the ribeye and my fiancé had the Lobster and shrimp scampi, chef’s kiss. The drinks were made perfect as well. The only downside was the collard greens, they were too salty. I would definitely recommend this location for a date night or just to catch a vibe.

Don’t even waste your time or money. No reservation then you won’t be seated for at lease an hour oh and when you make a reservation online you have to pay $20 per person😳 service very slow, simply because they only have two servers. Food took an hour and a half to come out because they only have two cooks. Music extremely loud, you can barely hear the ppl you’re at the table with, the restaurant is very small the music does not have to be that loud. On top of everything they add an 22% gratuity. Overall food was ok not worth the wait of everything or the 22% gratuity.

Everyone in our group enjoyed their food. The sides were large enough to share, so we got to taste almost everything on the menu. Our waiter, Moe, offered excellent suggestions.
