I usually don’t do reviews but i just ordered on uber eats and when i got there they said they didn’t receive the order because of uber eats (which i understand) but then made me wait 30+ mins for them to remake it only for the food to be FREEZING COLD when i got It. What did they take all that time to do ? This is absolutely ridiculous !

Absolutely wonderful place. The food was excellent, prices surprisingly cheap for the quality and quantity of food. Everything was well cooked and seasoned. I normally dont order home fries because at most places they are a soggy bland mess, but here they were absolutely delicious. I got the fried pork chops and they were delicious.

Wholly recommend this place.

Stopped by here for breakfast yesterday at about 9:20. No line, and just one other party in the restaurant at the famous MLK booth where the March on Washington was planned. There were two people working, and keeping quite busy. I waited about five minutes to order at the register. I didn’t wait long for the coffee and food to arrive though, maybe ten minutes? The food was all very good. Biscuits are made fresh in house. However with tip I was just over $20, which seemed a bit steep. I was mostly coming to say I’d been there, so guess that works out. Once done my place was cleared quickly, too. Free refills were also offered on the coffee. I’d recommend this place, and would definitely consider coming back when in the area!

What I love about this small, intimate restaurant is the incredible service and the comfort of the food. I ordered the grilled salmon with grits and eggs—even though I don’t eat eggs (my husband does), every bite was still memorable. What made the experience even more special was learning that the booth we sat in was where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once sat while organizing his marches.

The servers were absolutely phenomenal. When I mentioned that I prefer my salmon well-done and more heavily grilled, they immediately brought me an extra piece—no hesitation, no questions, no attitude. That level of care and attentiveness truly stood out. The service here is nothing short of exceptional.

I loved the history preserved at Florida Avenue Grill!!! It feels like you’ve stepped into several different decades. The food was exceptionally good and the service of the wonderful ladies and gentleman at the restaurant was admirable. I’ll definitely be back!!

Been coming here since college, and as a lover of all things breakfast, the Grill has been a go-to staple for me for almost 20 years. Food is always amazing and made fresh, atmosphere is neighborhood friendly, and the historical factor as one of DC's longest standing soul food institutions makes this a perfect place for anyone wanting a good meal and good vibes. Looking forward to another 20 years and beyond.

The food was delicious. I got the breakfast plate and everything hit! Eggs were delicious, potatoes fluffy and well seasoned bacon perfectly crispy. And the upstairs space is a great addition.

I had the pleasure of visiting Florida Avenue Grill during Howard’s Homecoming this past weekend, and I have to say — this place is truly stepping into a new era while still honoring its roots.

From the moment my friends and I walked in, the atmosphere felt electric yet familiar — that perfect mix of D.C. soul and southern comfort. The updates under the new ownership are noticeable but tasteful — everything feels refreshed without losing the Grill’s historic charm.

The food has leveled up in a big way. My meal came out hot, seasoned just right, and full of flavor. You can tell there’s been real attention put into the menu and ingredients — the kind of quality that reminds you why this spot has been a local institution for decades.

What really stood out, though, was the hospitality. Everyone I interacted with was warm, welcoming, and clearly proud to be part of the Grill’s story. It felt less like dining at a restaurant and more like being a guest at a family gathering.

Florida Avenue Grill has always been a D.C. staple, but it’s great to see it thriving again with new energy, better food, and the same heart that’s made it legendary. If you haven’t been in a while, it’s time to go back — it’s a true DC gem reborn.

A true DC Classic!— one of those places that just feels like home. The new ownership has done an amazing job keeping the soul of the Grill alive while refreshing things in all the right ways. The new and improved menu is a perfect balance of classic comfort food and fresh updates — every dish is full of flavor and made with care.

It’s great to see this historic spot thriving and continuing to represent the heart of the city.
