Really looking forward to dining here, it was our last night in the city so we wanted to treat ourselves to something nice and boy this place missed the mark big time. To be fair, the server was the only one working in the front, but he was kind of rude from the get go even before the restaurant got a little busy. And the food was not good. Sad this was such a missed opportunity

Servers were great but I didn’t like that they didn’t have a lot of food which I wanted to order.

Giovanni’s Trattoria is such a cozy and welcoming spot. The food feels homemade and full of flavor, especially the pasta and sauces. The staff was friendly and attentive, making the meal even more enjoyable. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, perfect for a casual Italian dinner. I’d happily return.

Food wasn't anything to write home about. Ceaser Salad tasted like it was bagged. The ravioli tasted fresh but I am not a fan of the tomato sauce it was in (a bit watery). I wished they asked or stated the gelato had chocolate drizzle on it.

Atmosphere was cozy, real hole in the wall. You can hear some of the music from DuPont circle clubs playing, but you could talk over it.

Service was fine, the staff were clearly swamped due to a local event in the area, but tried their best.

Our go-to, cozy neighborhood spot. Super friendly people and comforting food.

Update: We made our monthly visit last Friday (8/3/25) at 7 pm and it was closed. We sincerely hope it isn’t for good.

Great food. The chocolate moose and tiramisu cake were incredible. My friends and I loved all of our meals. Flavorful sauce and interesting potato stuffed pasta. The staff were friendly and attentive as well.

Let me explain! The food was REALLY GOOD. But, our order was lost and there were several issues. We arrived at 7:22pm and left about 9:40pm. We waited well over an hour for our food, other people came and went. Should I give this place a 1 star. Probably, BUT I won’t! I’ll give them 3 stars for the service we recieved and for them making the situation right. I appreciate what they did to rectify our experience. Their customer service was great. When we return I hope that our experience will be better, we ate for free, next time I hope to pay for my food. Yes, it’s true, it does smell weird.

I had the most incredible dinner at Giovanni's Trattu! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm, welcoming, and authentically Italian. The service was impeccable, with our server being both attentive and knowledgeable.

The real star of the show, however, was the food. I ordered the Osso Buco, and it was simply divine. The veal was so tender it fell off the bone and melted in my mouth, and the rich, flavorful sauce was a perfect complement to the creamy risotto it was served on. Every single bite was a taste of heaven. I cannot recommend this place enough!

We saw the good ratings and were expecting a great dinner, but we were disappointed. First, there was a bad toilet smell in the restaurant. Then, we had to wait a lot (~40min) for the main courses. But the most disappointing was the cuisine: there was too little quantity and it was too salty, which didn’t make it for the taste unfortunately.

Too expensive for mediocre food. Too slow service

Smells like you are eating inside a sewer. Awful smell.

Absolutely banging beef Milanese, great wine, decent prices, place REEKS of piss. They must want you to feel as though you are quite literally IN the canals of Venice, bc I felt like the only thing I could smell more than the wonderful tomato sauce they have cooking up is the stench of fresh ammonia rich urine. I genuinely was confounded how nobody else but the people at my table could smell it, and don't worry I asked: nobody I was eating with was a) a baby or b) an incontinent adult. Just unfathomable. Recommend a sponsorship with oxyclean.
