This was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere was perfect and the service was great. I am definitely coming back with my family. And don’t get me started with the food absolutely everything I would ask for. Five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It’s not just the food that makes a restaurant great, it’s the service and friendliness you’re shown as a customer. Giovanni’s is a fantastic and a well-deserved example of how a restaurant can be so wholesome. Thank you guys so much!

I visit this trattoria once a year and have been doing it for the last four. The quality and availability of entrees has declined substantially, but what is getting worse is the restaurant itself. It's literally falling apart. When I stepped in for dinner, a foul smell hit me, sewage smell to be precise. The owner and staff tried their best to mask it by using all sorts of scenting devices. The men restroom was out of service so I had to use the ladies. It was utterly dirty. I can't imagine a lady entering it. Overall the restaurant rests on the laurels of his former owners, but time has come to call it a day. I will not return.

They have gluten free options for pasta, you just have to ask cause I didn’t see it listed on the menu. We ordered through door dash and didn’t eat in. All of our food was so good! The only thing we didn’t like was we had ordered ravioli and it was over $20 for 6 pieces. It tasted good but we felt more should’ve been included.

Went to celebrate our 21 birthdays! Everyone had a great time, food was delish (loved the calamari) and the perfect price, they even surprised us w tiramisu and limoncello! Service was great and the people working were a great vibe.

Really looking forward to dining here, it was our last night in the city so we wanted to treat ourselves to something nice and boy this place missed the mark big time. To be fair, the server was the only one working in the front, but he was kind of rude from the get go even before the restaurant got a little busy. And the food was not good. Sad this was such a missed opportunity

Servers were great but I didn’t like that they didn’t have a lot of food which I wanted to order.

Giovanni’s Trattoria is such a cozy and welcoming spot. The food feels homemade and full of flavor, especially the pasta and sauces. The staff was friendly and attentive, making the meal even more enjoyable. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, perfect for a casual Italian dinner. I’d happily return.

Food wasn't anything to write home about. Ceaser Salad tasted like it was bagged. The ravioli tasted fresh but I am not a fan of the tomato sauce it was in (a bit watery). I wished they asked or stated the gelato had chocolate drizzle on it.
Atmosphere was cozy, real hole in the wall. You can hear some of the music from DuPont circle clubs playing, but you could talk over it.
Service was fine, the staff were clearly swamped due to a local event in the area, but tried their best.

Our go-to, cozy neighborhood spot. Super friendly people and comforting food.
Update: We made our monthly visit last Friday (8/3/25) at 7 pm and it was closed. We sincerely hope it isn’t for good.
Great food. The chocolate moose and tiramisu cake were incredible. My friends and I loved all of our meals. Flavorful sauce and interesting potato stuffed pasta. The staff were friendly and attentive as well.

Let me explain! The food was REALLY GOOD. But, our order was lost and there were several issues. We arrived at 7:22pm and left about 9:40pm. We waited well over an hour for our food, other people came and went. Should I give this place a 1 star. Probably, BUT I won’t! I’ll give them 3 stars for the service we recieved and for them making the situation right. I appreciate what they did to rectify our experience. Their customer service was great. When we return I hope that our experience will be better, we ate for free, next time I hope to pay for my food. Yes, it’s true, it does smell weird.
