There are simply too many excellent coffee shops in this area (Lot 38! Maman! Providers of actual joy!) to waste even 90 accidental seconds at a place serving mid-tier coffee with what is—without exaggeration—the worst customer service I’ve encountered in DC. And I’ve worked here long enough to remember when Starbucks was the only coffee game in this part of town.

I should have quit the moment my sister bravely attempted to order a “chai latte,” only to be met with the blank, haunting stare of someone who’d apparently never heard the word latte before. This, despite the enormous “CHAI” printed on the menu board directly over their shoulder. Did the addition of “latte” offend him? Did the redundancy trigger a personal crisis? We’ll never know—he offered zero clarification and negative enthusiasm. My sister never went back. I, on the other hand, believed in second chances. Like a fool.

Then came the $8 three-shot medium latte—$8!—which one can get better and cheaper at Lot 38, where they also treat you like a human being rather than an inconvenience. (Seriously try Lot 38- they’re around the corner and amazing.) Should’ve walked away then. Didn’t.

Today, however, was the final caffeinated straw. The app was wrong about what was available in-store, and I didn’t want a substitute, so I needed a refund. Simple enough, right? Wrong. Apparently only a manager can issue refunds, and the manager was either off-site, off-duty, or on a personal sabbatical in the broom closet, because no one could summon them. Instead, I was instructed to email the company for my $14 coffee-and-muffin refund.

Email.
Email the company.
For fourteen dollars. I’ve filed my taxes with more joy and fewer steps.

Look. I’ll be fair: 80% of the time this place is “fine,” in the same way airplane food is “fine” when you’re starving and 30,000 feet above the ground. But why settle? I can go to Maman for cheaper coffee, better food, and employees who appear to at least endure existing. I can go to Lot 38 for cheaper, better everything with stellar service. I can even go to Starbucks—a place synonymous with chaos—and still get a functioning app and refunds that do not require written correspondence.

Gregory’s has officially run out of reasons to exist in my life. Save yourself and don’t let it into yours.

I should’ve walked out when the cashier couldn’t explain what the pours were. I ordered a Spirulina drink and the DMV sandwich. My friend ordered the same sandwich with a coffee. Both sandwiches came out burnt, the cheese was scorched onto the bread, and the microwaved bacon and egg had no flavor.
My friend is nicer than me so he ate his, but I couldn’t take another bite. I showed the cashier my torched sandwich and they remade it. The second one had melted cheese but the taste was still bad.
At that point there was no fixing it. Sorry Gregory.

I order lattes and vegan sandwiches via grubhub from here a lot! I can’t speak to atmosphere but the food and lattes are delicious! I assume the atmosphere is great but genuinely don’t know.

I do like Gregory's coffee, but I just had an experience at this location where I'd placed a mobile order for pickup 10 minutes after store open. Although, funnily enough, it looks like my order was made and ready right on time looking through the window, the staff did not open the shop for 20 minutes past opening, making me late to work by the time I did actually get my drink.

Disappointed in the food options and how they make the food with it being already premade in a plastic bag, would never spend $20 for two bite size sandwiches.

They’re doing their best to hold it down but you’ve got your team here super understaffed this Saturday morning.

My favorite place I got coffee during the week I spent in DC. Super tasty coffee (I got the Fall Oat Boy) and cool modern vibes.

The atmosphere is always nice and clean.Its.pretty obvious that other people who come in also look for the same;) theres also nice outgrowth seating away from the sidewalk and right above the metro.
