Had the prima Vera pasta and Mozzarella sticks. The pasta was served in a sauce that had the consistency and taste of water. It seems like they just threw in some Walmart frozen vegetables into the pasta. It was disgusting. I really can’t fathom how they decided that was an acceptable dish to serve to people. The mozzarella sticks were burnt to a deep brown color. I don’t write reviews but I felt compelled to after thinking this was going to be a late night food spot. I WAS WRONG.

Our favorite spot in the neighborhood! Everything on the menu hits the spot and prices are super reasonable compared to other places in the city. The happy hour is great and includes deals on food too. There is always a crowd of regulars welcoming you in and the owners are super friendly. You won’t regret stopping by!

*Edit: There was probably a better way to respond to this as a business, but this review was meant for a different location while traveling. My sincerest Apologies.

Great neighborhood bar. The staff is very friendly. The mozzarella sticks and cheese cake are the best!

Pretty decent neighborhood bar experience if you have a small group and are in the area looking for something a little different. The place has a mini-Cheers vibe to it. You walk down the stairs in this small basement area. I came for Game 1 of the World Series because all the other bars in the area were sold out (even standing room was sold out). This place had a table available. It's very small overall, but they have plenty of drinks available and some typical bar food.We ended up getting a pizza because the waiter was honest about the other food not being such a great choice for that time of night. The pizza was pretty good. The prices are fair. The bathroom is clean. Overall, it seems very much like a neighborhood bar that I would assume many others know each other in there. Definitely a place to pick. I assume the patio and upstairs (assuming there is one) has more space for other times of the day and week.

A great neighborhood bar! Fantastic food. 100% recommend the margarita pizza, cheese sticks, and cheese cake. I promise you they have more than just cheese inspired food options that also sounded good. Nice atmosphere, friendly people, and good conversation. Definitely a place worth checking out!

Love this neighborhood gem! I visited the DC area for a wedding and ended up stumbling into this place by chance. Being from the NYC area, this place exceeded my standards for its great food! Wasn't expecting to get restaurant & nyc-quality pizza at a bar, but was pleasantly surprised! The owner was very friendly and even offered us free shots (once he realized we were from the same area)! If i ever go back to DC I will definitely stop by to visit once again!Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great vibe, with awesome food and crafted drinks!

Amazing staff, amazing home style Italian food, amazing vibe. Can't really ask for a better bar/restaurant. The kind of place where you can saddle up at the bar and talk with bartender and other customers. All while eating delicious pizza, pasta, or what ever Italian flavor you're feeling. If you're in town for a quick trip and need a local place, HopScotch is there for you.

Matt, the proprietor, was fantastic to us. He said that the intention behind this place was to create a Cheers-style neighborhood spot that welcomed everyone. Additionally, he (and his father and co-owner) wanted to serve authentic Italian fare at reasonable prices. To the owners I say, "mission accomplished. " The crowd was extremely warm and inviting with great conversation. The food portions are very generous and you will not leave hungry. Furthermore, it tastes great. If I ever move to DC, I'm moving to this neighborhood just to be in proximity.

First, I would like to apologize first for not backing this review up with photos, I just didn't think of it at the time. Second, I will highlight the good before I identify the bad and what needs to be improved. 4-24-22 GOOD: style-it's located in a remodeled basement with patio seating. Nice decore and ambiance. Waitress- super polite and attentive. Promptness of order fulfillment- fast. Freshness- growing basil, parsley and maybe cilantro on-site. NEEDS TO BE IMPROVED: I ordered the Chicken Parm. and spaghetti and had high hopes as this is a favorite dish I rarely order. As stated realier, food came fast which normally would be good, but with chicken, this got my attention. As soon as I tasted the pasta I was instantly disappointed. Pasta was over cooked and mushy. It's supposed to be al dente.. the "sauce" was nothing more than red flavorless water. Proper pasta sauce is to have a solid tomato base with some heavy cream, you are not supose to be able to see through it, but it's not supposed to be a thick pasty sauce either. The garlic bread was bitter and almost burnt. The chicken, although cooked properly, had a heavy crunchy breading that was on the verge of being burnt and it tasted like it. I was super hungry and so I ate it. The wife ordered pasta fagioli and a salad. Croutons were soft and void of flavor, salad was otherwise ok. The Fagioli on the other hand, like my spaghetti, was very watery. Yes it's a soup, but the broth was so thin that you can tell it was lacking substance. The pasta was very over cooked and it was without question, the worst Fagioli I have ever had. THE BAD: The owner/chef/ Mgr (not sure of his position) Came out multiple times to sit on the stairs next door and smoke cigarettes that wafted into the patio 5 feet away and into our "dining" experience. I have nothing against smokers, I just don't want to smell it when I eat...or try to. I really hate leaving bad reviews, but as an Itallian, I can't let this go unmentioned. Love and respect needs to be shown to this epicureanism (fine food). We left not just disappointed, but sad. We actually went and had a second dinner. When the waitress cleared the table the question was never asked "was something wrong", or "did you not like the food". I was expecting that she would, since 75% of our food remained on the plate. Food at this price point ($75) should be cooked fresh and properly.
