After living in Italy for several years and then moving to the U.S., it was honestly hard for me to find an Italian restaurant that truly felt right. Il Canale became that place for me.

From the very first visit, I felt at home. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, and the staff is incredibly kind and welcoming. The Italian hospitality is real here. The waiters speak Italian, greet you in Italian, and say goodbye the same way, which immediately brings back the feeling of being in Italy.

The food is excellent. The pasta, pizza, and salads are all delicious and feel authentic. I enjoyed it so much that I ended up coming back every single day while I was in Georgetown.

I truly recommend this restaurant. Make sure to book a table in advance because it is very popular. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and overall experience.

A special place that I will definitely return to.

Absolutely perfecttt experience. The food was truly amazing. The servers were attentive and friendly and the atmosphere of the place was nice. We ordered the Diablo pizza Caesar salad and a lobster pasta I honestly forgot the name but it was so creamy and flavorful. A perfect balance of pasta and filling. The pizza was great too but it was strong and gave me a light heart burn. The Caesar salad was solid as well.

We had a wonderful experience; the food was delicious and the service was very friendly. They accommodated me and my family (14 people) on a day like today, January 1st!

Nice place. Food was OK, but not great. Server was either of over booked or having a bad day. She was very nice, just forgetful and slow. It was nice inside. All that said, it was a fair price, if a little disappointing.

My grandmother is Italian. I don't eat ANYONE'S Italian food, don't trust it. This was pretty good. Still not Mommom's. Would come back though.

During our family visit to Washington, we had an absolutely wonderful experience at Il Canale.
The food was excellent, fresh, and delicious truly enjoyed by everyone in our family.
A special thank you to Erind, our server, who was amazing. His kindness, professionalism, and attention to detail truly made our experience even better.
Outstanding service, great atmosphere, and a place we would highly recommend!

Delicious dinner - started with the Focaccia and meatballs. Then 3 pizzas and a lasagna dish. The food was all very good. Pizzas were definitely larger than we expected so took leftovers home. Reservation recommended - it was crowded even on a Monday evening!

Fresh food in the restaurant. I saw a lot of photos on the owner’s past marathon races. Very impressive!

Decent spot to get pizza, but there are better options in the city.

They have one meat pizza on the menu with a beef option, the rest of the meat pizzas have pork.

The service is average, the host made a big deal when we wanted to switch tables when the restaurant was empty except for 3-4 tables.

We were a party of 2, we got the il canale salad which was 10/10, the vegetariana rossa 7/10 and the del pizzaiolo rossa 7/10. The total bill was $85 plus tip.

I’m a local who has been going to il Canale for 5 years. It was the first restaurant we ate at when we moved to DC and we’ve spent many special occasions here.

Unfortunately, after my last experience I’ll have to reevaluate whether to keep coming. Everything has declined in quality. The salads are embarrassing - basically bagged lettuce with some add ons haphazardly added on top. I really hate that they don’t dress the salad themselves. Atrocious. Pasta was ok, but I think the quality has declined. Lasagna was called Chef Boyardee by one of my dining companions.

Pizza is still pretty good, but I feel like it has declined as well. It used to have more of the characteristic chewiness of pizza napoletana with 00 flour. Now it tastes more like Timber/wood fired style which is not an upgrade for me.

Please guys - continue to support good quality food in Washington DC rather than turning Georgetown into a tourist trap. I want to keep coming and maybe I will for the pizza. But the salad is seriously embarrassing.

Really awesome dinner that includes exceptional appetizers, wine selection and vegetarian options. The table had a gnocchi Bolognese, vegetarian pasta, fancy mozzarella sticks and one of the finest red wines I've had. Highly recommend.
